How to make a keg look classy

Hi Ladies,

Any suggestions on what to rent or do to make a keg look classy? I'm hiring bar tenders, but purchasing my own beer and wine and want to have the kegs be invisible. Almost as if they were at an actual bar. Any reccomendations or examples of what you've done?

Thanks!
Karissa

If you can afford to rent one, get a kegurator. It's basically turns a keg into a draft, like the ones you see at bars. I have no idea how much they cost to rent, but here's a site that sells them to give you an idea of what I'm talking about: http://www.beveragefactory.com/refrigerators/beer/kegco_K199B-1_kegerator.shtml

  • I understand where you're both coming from, but we're having a rustic wedding and I think there is way to make it look less like a college frat party! Just looking for any ideas that people have done!
  • I understand why you're asking, but I think everyone is just saying not to stress about it! There's a lot to do with wedding planning, so one less thing to do should be welcomed :)
  • Especially if your wedding is rustic, I think it would be just fine. Just don't stress about it. No one will judge the keg - it's providing them with beer.

For what it's worth, FI's family always has big reunions that have multiple kegs (they are a lot of homebrewers). I've never once thought it looked like a frat party.

The bartenders will probably be working behind...a bar? So put the kegs behind...the bar?

I know this sounds like a ridiculously simple solution...but beer is beer.

    This?

I mean, they've got to be serving off of something, right?  Can't you just put the kegs behind it?

  • If you don't have a bar, just set up a folding table with a table cloth. Put your bartenders behind the table, with the kegs under the table.
  • I don't understand the whole "I want the kegs to be visible like they are at an actual bar."  I don't know about you but when I go to the bar kegs are not visible.  They are under the bar connected to the draft spouts.  You don't see the actual keg.  Set up a "bar" area with tables and table cloths and keep the kegs either under the tables or behind the tables.  Grab a few plastic tubs in your color scheme if you wish and put the kegs in those with ice to keep the beer cold.  Trust me, no one will give two shits that there is an undecorated keg at your wedding, they will just be excited that there is beer to drink.

  • Like everyone said...a keg is a keg. We're having kegs at ours but there is a bar to put them behind

If you dont have a bar maybe flip a long table on its side and drape burlap over it with the kegs behind?!?!?!

@StageManager14 THAT is a terrible solution-jeez who comes up with these things?

  • Ditto the kegerator if you can - it'll keep the beer cold all night and look a little less fratty. If not, agree with PPs to not try to hide it. It's kind of like the chair thing...when people try to disguise them, they become more noticeable.

  • This is a rustic wedding, and you're worried about a keg not being classy enough?

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

I actually do think wooden kegs can look classy by themselves in the right situation, but if you disagree, have them behind the bar.  And "rustic" and "classy" don't go together.
  • You realize you're completely contradicting yourself right?
No, I wasn't, because I said "in the right situation."

You realize you spend a lot of precious time going over my posts just to look for things that offend you?  Apparently your life must be really boring if you feel the need to do that.
  • I'm going for the Rustic/Chic/Romantic look so classy really can be applied here! ;)

Regardless, thanks everyone for making me feel better about it - I think the bar tenders will have a bar and tap so they will be hidden - but obviously either way it's free beer and that should be appreciated!

I completely disagree with the latter statement.

You could always just embrance it! (totally kidding!)

  • Not sure if its too late since you posted this in June, but I have a few ideas.
I'm not planning on hiding mine, actually I want them out in the open. I have multiple home brews featured at my wedding. I'm using a claw foot tub filled with ice, 2 kegs can fit in one tub. Also a couple vintage galvanized metal washtubs! I have one keg left so I decided to go with a metal trash can, rather than plastic, and I'm leaning a large chalk board against it. My beer cans are in a green canoe filled with ice, and non-alcoholic drinks (in mason jars and plastic pouches) are in a metal wheel barrow. I have a single wash tub on a red stand holding bottled water.
  • Use wooden barrel(s) instead of the ugly steel ones:
