What to registrar for?

Hi all,
My FI and I have been together for three years.  We live together and have a house with all the things a house needs.  What do we registrar for for our guests to get for us if they want?

    It's register.

If you don't need stuff, don't have a bridal shower and have a small registry with thing you can upgrade. Towels, sheets, etc. People are starting to realize if you've lived together for years, you probably prefer cash.

My FI and I have been living together for almost 2 years now, and are in a similar situation. Your best bet is to register for things you can always use, as mentioned above. Bath/kitchen towels, linens, pot holders, picture frames, or home decor things etc. Things you'll generally go through or could use more of. The registry is also a great opportunity to upgrade. Maybe you'd like a nicer/newer model of kitchen appliance? (ie: coffeemaker, slow cooker, deep fryer etc). Maybe your hubby-to-be could use some newer power tools even? I know lots of couples that throw things on their registry like that.

We basically have everything we need too, and for the most part the 'upgraded' versions, and we were still able to make a decent sized registry for those guests that wanted to buy gifts for the shower/wedding. Of course cash is always great, but without a somewhat good sized registry, for those guests that would find cash inappropriate as a wedding gift, (and some do), you may end up getting random gifts anyways. So they might as well be things you picked out! :) Plus, the registry process is kind of fun anyways! My FI and I enjoyed it, (as long as he got to scan). LOL :P

We are also in the same boat. We lived together for 2 years but there is plenty that we need to upgrade. Bedding, pots and pans, knife set, place settings... You'd be surprised what you can find in Bed, Bath and Beyond :)

I agree with what others have said. You register for things that you need / want to upgrade. Also, going to a store like Bed, Bath and Beyond with a pad of paper and a pencil will help to give you lots of ideas and probably ideas you didn't even think of before walking around the store. That's what I did. I had about 10 things on my "what to register for" list and then I walked around Bed Bath and Beyond and my list became much much longer.

Take a walk around your house a few times and see if anything makes you say, "Gee. This *blank* is starting to show it's age. Sure would be nice to have a new one." Then as PPs said, go to a store and walk around. You'll be surprised at what you'd like.
