Reception Ideas -City of Pittsburgh

All-
Looking for some help regarding reception place ideas in the City of Pittsburgh. We are trying not to do a hotel wedding....but need to fit roughly 150 folks.
I would like to showcase our dear city (lots of out of town guests + I heart pgh).

I've looked at Morning Glory Inn (music stops at 10 :(, Jay Verno Studios -not sure it is "us", The Barn at Fallingwater (too far).

Does anyone have any unique ideas in or very close to the city that will not totally break the bank?

Thanks for any input!

  • LeMont!

  • Morning Glory inn has the worst reviews. I would stay FAR away.  Use the search button at the bottom of the page to find more info.

Lemont is a great choice, I think the Children's museum, PNC park, and Heinz Field all do weddings.  There's the Zoo/Aquarium (less city, but still kinda fun and less expensive).

I also didn't want a hotel wedding and went with the Pittsburgh Golf Club in the Squirrel Hill/Oakland area.  I would definitely recommend it!
  • The Heinz History Center in the Strip.  They have a set of coaster cars from the Racers!  City showcase!  Also you can showcase through food, beer, and favors.  Good luck!
  • The Grand Concourse is downtown too! The seating is a bit odd since you can't move the tables (built in booths), but it is very pretty.

And I loved the Lemont too!
  • Rivers Casino has the new banquet space which is nice.

Also maybe look into Heinz Hall or the Mansions on Fifth....

    good luck with planning.
  • Funny - I had the exact same thought process.  I invited about 125 people, and a lot are coming in from out of town.  Born and raised as a Pittsburgher, I really wanted to showcase the city as well.  So, I ended up at the Grand Concourse (both reception and ceremony).  It is walking distance to sheraton hotel, so I thought that would be convenient for guests, plus a great view of the city.  Also, the restaurant is a historic landmark which I thought was cool, and amazing architecture.  My wedding isn't for a couple of weeks, but so far they have been easy to work with and reasonably priced.  I would recommend!

  • The Mansion at Maple Heights is really pretty, and has that older, vintagey kind of vibe like the Morning Glory Inn.
