Shoe Rant

I am getting married at a summer camp. This is the summer camp I attended for years and then went on to work at for years. I spent years wondering around there barefoot because I hate shoes. In the middle of the camp is a huge field. This is where we are having the ceremony. Our reception is happening in a smaller field at the camp. Inevitably when discussing wedding plans people ask me what kind of shoes I plan to wear. I do not plan to wear shoes. I hate shoes. When I tell people I do not plan to wear shoes they look at me as if I have suddenly grown 6 extra heads and demand to know my back up plan because I need to have a back-up.
I'm getting married in a lush field, you can't see my feet under my dress, I hate shoes, and it is my wedding day. Why is this so hard?

My only question is what if it was rainy the night before or something and the grass is all yucky?  I believe Addie can show you the pic of her feet...and that was with shoes on, I believe.

But if the weather has been fine, then who cares.

  • People are probably just upset because it isn't "traditional", and for some reason people think barefoot=bad in general. I think you should take the time to calmly explain to people why you don't want to wear shoes, and if they don't agree with you, it's okay, because their opinion doesn't even matter that much. It's your day!

  • JMO but barefoot doesn't match wearing a wedding dress no matter how casual. When you were at camp, you were barefoot in shorts, t shirts, swimsuit.  It all "goes" together.
There are so many pretty styles of footwear that can complete your outfit.
  • I think that what might be catching people off guard is your "I hate shoes!" comments. I mean, not all shoes are comfy but it sure beats walking barefoot in a city!

Maybe if your approach was that you are excited to walk barefoot in the lush fields you walked barefoot in for so much of your life, people wouldn't be so adverse to it. But that's not a guarantee- again, I can't imagine not wanting to wear something on your feet.

Nope....shoes were off, but I'm happy to share the pic!

I was not able to wear shoes the day of my wedding b/c I screwed up and got the wrong size Solemates for my heels and the ground was wet and soft. It ended up being awesome not to wear my shoes, so there was the silver lining. However, my feet did look like this by the end of the ceremony and pictures, and I had to go in the bathroom before joining the reception to wash them off. I'm not saying don't do it; it's just that it's something to keep in mind.

LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU HATE FEET!

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • OP, I also love being barefoot and would say go for it, except for one consideration. You say this is a lush field-how lush are we talking? I'm assuming from your avatar that you are a fellow New England girl (go B's!) so if the field is anything other than manicured grass I'd be worried about ticks. They've been awful the last couple of years! I know in a dress that's a risk anyway, but some comfy flats might slightly minimize it.

No offense if you've already considered this, it was just the first thing that came to mind.
