Help with honeymoon ideas on $2000 budget in October

Hello all!

My fiance and I are having the hardest time settling on a honeymoon for our wedding this coming October.

We have $2000 saved for the trip, and have been scouring Groupon and LivingSocial for good deals to get our cost down even more. We are generally more mountain people than we are beach people, but I am open to suggestions.

In terms of what we are wanting to do...we want to RELAX and take it easy, but have the option of doing something fun. We both like the small town feel, would love going on a bike ride and a picnic, that kind of thing.

Any suggestions would be great!

  • Where are you from? If travel costs won't eat up too much of your budget, I'd recommend New England that time of year. My family used to travel to Vermont over Columbus Day Weekend growing up, and the folliage was always spectacular. Lots of great hiking, bed and breakfasts, etc.

  • We're in Oklahoma, so travel isn't overly expensive, depending on how much lodging is. I have seen some amazing bed and breakfast and cabin deals in New England on Groupon! Do you have any other cities you recommend?
  • In addition to looking at Groupon and LivingSocial, I recommend that you check out VRBO.com and Homeaway.com for home/condo/apartment rentals. I've been able to snag some great deals over the years using these websites for much less than I would have paid at a hotel in the same area!
  • You can do a cheaper honeymoon in Mexico for that price depending on what time of the year. Check out websites like allinclusiveoutlet.com and others to see how much it would cost. Mexico is super relaxing! :-)

When I think of mountains I think of hiking, river rafting, boating, tubing, skiing, and snowboarding. A cheap place to do so is Pennsylvania. You can certainly do the first two but if you are interested in last suggestion I would delay the HM for a month or two later for trails to open up.
    Visit:
A little outdated but believe it's within budget
Two ski mountains are near this resort big bear and camelback. Camelback is a tourist attraction and will be more crowded than the other.

Also, I LOVE Groupon I have used it for many other things besides vacations. While the deals are fantastic and true - dates are quite restrictive and not always guaranteed.

  • I'm from NH, and I'm betting it is exactly what you are looking for.  The White Mountains are absolutely beautiful!  You could rent a cabin on a lake and then do day activities like hiking the mountains, going to table rock (beautiful view), and hitting the flume gorge.  You will have to drive to get to things because everything is spread out, but the drive is worth seeing the White Mountains in the fall.
    Good luck!
  • Totally check out Mexico!

Also, Arizona that time of year is amazing, and you can drive from OK, which leaves you a nice budget for hotel, meals, etc.  Northern Arizona is very pretty, and I'm sure you could find a charming B&B to stay in, and then maybe splurge a night or two at a nice resort in Tempe or Tucson.
  • We used to stay at a place called the White Pine Lodge in Londonderry, VT - but honestly, I was a kid, so I have no idea the value, or what else is around there (I just got in the car and went, lol). I do remember lots of great hiking :)

I would suggest the PNW if you are truly mountain people.
I stayed in a treehouse and it was incredible. It was so cozy and fancy, but out in the middle of the wilderness where you can hike your hearts out.
Snoqualmie falls is just down the road, and there are also treehouse cabins near Mount Rainer for more extreme hiking (although, October can be hit or miss depending on the year.)
Even staying in Portland lends for beautiful waterfall hiking and some hot springs!

    Hello,
This letter is a bit different than what people usually write on forums...
I prefer not to say my name, I'll just say I'm 21 years old.
Me and my husband got married about eight months ago, at the time things looked much better than today..
We moved together to an apartment and stayed there for something like six months, I worked as a babysitter and my husband worked in a restaurant. My husband has debts from before the wedding (which i knew about) and the money we earned just wasn't enough. My husband insists to pay the debts on time so it won't cause more problems in the future and beside, part of it is on his brother's name so he can't make any delays. We got kicked out of the apartment with no money what so ever, we slept by friends, in a motel 6 and even on the streets for two nights.. the nightmare of my life.. our parents wanted to help but just couldn't.
Someone offered my husband a "good" job in NY, it looked like some light in the darkness we've been in, so we decided to go, guess what? it wasn't so good and now we are in NY with no money for more than a month already. Some jewish guy found us and gave us a place to sleep for free for a few weeks and helped us with a few hundred after we were sleeping in a synagogue for about a week.
My husband is working very hard and makes $65 a day and i'm babysitting when I find a chance. But it barely covers food and far from paying any debts. My husband is a dedicated man and is always smiling when i'm around so I won't be sad, but I know that he's broken from the inside and I know this is not the life he wishes for his newly wife.
We knew much better times and my husband did a lot of charity and grace with people and I also use to do babysitting for free for a single mom so she can work and feed her baby. I guess life is a circle...
We applied for loans in the banks, Credit card companies and online, no one is willing to help, my credit is bad and my husband owes a lot of money. He tried to save his old business but fell into deep debts. He also took a loan from someone to cover the wedding and to buy me things. Now this man wants his money back, and calls every day.
This jewish guy we met told us about a jewish organization that gives loans up to a few thousand with no interest but they want people to sign with us and we don't have even that.
My husband doesn't know i'm writing this and i'm not even sure I want him to know, it would probably make him feel even worse. I know this is not the normal way to ask for help, I also know that not many people react to it but i'm desperate. I'm just counting on the open hearts which I know is good, I know because my heart is good. I feel that I must help my husband in any way possible since he's doing everything for me...
I'm going to leave here my paypal account because I know it's safe and people have less concerns with it. Also you can send me an email and we can talk so you will see that i'm not part of an evil scam or something like that.
The jewish man that helped us said something very smart when I asked him why does he help us so much? He said : "send your bread over the sea because one day you will find it, and on that day you will be need it the most, this is how God manage his creation". He also said that we give him the chance to help and by that we're helping him more than he is helping us.... that was sweet.

Our situation is really bad and any help would help very much and God pays for the goods.

    My paypal:

If you feel like contacting me you can through the same email. Forgive me if I won't answer right away, I barely have access to internet but I will reply as soon as I can.
    Thank you very much!
P.S. It would be also considered a great help if you will pass this letter to your friends, and I want to thank also for those who wanted to help but just couldn't afford it.

    Thank you all for all,
    Yours, V.H
