What new music are you loving? (Wedding or not)

Im starting to think about what type of music I want at the reception, and I stumbled upon Vitamin String Quartet.  We already have a classical quartet for the ceremony, but I really love their stuff!  I want to put it in the cocktail hour somehow.

I also discovered Ray LaMontagne and have no idea how I never really heard of him before.  I somehow have to use "You are the Best Thing" in my wedding.

NWR - I have to admit that I've been liking Watch the Throne.  I know Kanye is crazy, but I love his music.

Any new music you've been liking?

We love Vitamin String Quartet.  Most of our ceremony music is very traditional except....ta-dah!!!  We are exiting the church to the Vitamin String Quartets version of "I Was Made for Loving You" (KISS).
    I am super excited!!!

Pittsburgh September Siggy - Our honeymoon will be at the Royal Suites Turquesas in P*nta Cana. Super excited!

Last time I went to the salon for a pre-vacation wax, my aesthetician told me that her CD player was broken.  Usually they have on new age, Enya type music.  She turned on Pandora to the Florence and the Machine station cause it was her favorite.  As long as I had something to distract me I didn't care what it was!

I actually ended up really liking it and I listen to it at work a lot now.

janice - that is so awesome! When I heard the VSQ version of transatlanticism (Death Cab), I thought it would be a perfect bridal processional...it is making me second-guess having a live quartet a little.

Melis- I love Florence + the Machine!!! I discovered them while Christmas shopping in the mall last year as one of their songs were being played at American Eagle lol.
I have never heard of the Vitamin String Quartet but now I definitely have to look them up.

I also love Adele right now. I wanted to play her version of 'Make you feel my love" as our first song possibly, but I don't like the line "I know you haven't made you mind up yet." We may play it still, but I have loved Nat King Cole since I was a little girl (I used to dance on my mom's coffee table to it when I was 4 years old) so I think I would regret not having our first dance to a Nat King Cole song. Probably use "When I Fall in Love."

The other big items in my playlist currently are Vivaldi (I love the four seasons and go through periods where I play it all the time), Ke$ha, Katy Perry, and Mumford and Sons. I know- I listen to the most random things ever.

sari I love love love the entire Mumford and Sons album.  I have got to have some of their music during dinner.  I'm thinking The Cave and Roll Away Your Stone..some of the other ones are just too sad/slow for a wedding.

Love love Ray Lamontagne. I think we are going to use "You Are the Best Thing" for the anniversary dance. The most recent CD I bought was Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. It's really good!

Md- I love The Cave! Such a good song. And yeah, most of their songs are a bit sad or just innappropriate for a wedding (Little Lion Man, lol).

panther - that sounds like an awesome anniversary dance song (i might steal the idea if you dont mind...)  We are only inviting about 5 couples who have been married longer than 5 years (they are all around the 30-40yr mark), so I wasn't sure if we'd do that dance, but I want to give my bouquet to the longest lasting couple.

I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate Matt Wertz's I Will Not Take My Love Away and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's acoustic version of Hysterical into our ceremony - I personally hate Wagner's Wedding March, so I'm going to replace it with something more modern.

On a "just for fun" note, I can't stop listening to Foster the People lately!  Florence + the Machine and Grace and the Nocturnals are two of my favorites, too!

I've never heard of Vitamin String Quartet, looking into it now! Thanks girls. I have to be honest I was just stressing about church music the other day to FI and thats a great fix! All I knew is that I wanted to walk down the aisle to "I'll Be" By Edwin Mccain(Piano) so now i'll be looking into VSQ music! thanks!!!

If you like Ray Lamontagne, you should check out Devendra Banhart. I'm using a few of his songs in my wedding.

I'm a Ray fan, too! Hope this isn't inappropriate for the board, but I actually have 2 extra tickets to his Pittsburgh show on Sept. 27. My friend and I got 4 tickets, but now our fiances can't go due to grad school commitments. So we have 2 extras. PM me if you're interested in purchasing.

I've always liked Come Away with Me/Nora Jones for our first dance song...and it's on the list of songs our band already knows. I'm also loving O.A.R.'s new album and Matt Nathanson's new album. If you ever get a chance to hear Matt live, he's hilarious.
