STD addressing

Hi All!

I am about to send out my STD's, but my mom brought up a question about the "plus one's".  For those that are married, I put Mr. & Mrs. So and So on the labels, and then for anyone who has a live in or steady partner, I put both of their names on the STD.  But, do I need to put "& guest" on the STD if I don't know who they're bringing?  Or can I just wait to put that on the actual invitation?  For some reason it seems weird to put that on the STD...but I can understand how it would be good to know whether they can bring someone or not.

You should probably say "and guest" on the STD so your guests know their partner is welcome and can make arrangements accordingly.

Thanks for the feedback! Right, if they have a partner, I put their partner's name.  But, if they're currently single, I was just going to leave it at their name on the STD and then & guest on the actual invite.

I'm running into the same problem. What I've decided is that the STD are for the people we absolutely, positively, no changing our minds know that we want to invite, because once the STD is out, they must be invited. 

I can always add people down the line, but I can't un-invite anyone. So send with care and consideration. 

So for my cousin who is currently dating someone but not seriously:

Dr. K. Someone --> STD

And if they're still together when the ceremony comes 'round:

Dr. K Someone and Guest (or name of SO if they're engaged, etc.)

I agree with readingrrl. STDs are fr abslute, must be there people. For my friends who are out of town, I am sending theirs with "& guest" even though none of them are dating someone seriously because I don't want them to feel like they have to travel by themselves. They can plan now to bring another friend or a date or come alone. My local friends who aren't seriously involved are getting their name only. I will add  "& guest" or "& name" if they are with someone seriously by the time I send the invites in several months. I like the flexibility and expectation setting.
