Barn, tented, backyard type of relaxed wedding venue ideas?

Hello everyone!

I'm a newly engaged and excited/nervous bride to be looking for venues in nj. I really want to do laidback, relaxed, let's have fun sort of wedding. I don't want to do grand ball room for my reception but I want to get some ideas on where I can start looking. I really like crossed keys inn but from what I've been reading, the price can be a little high. I'm up for barn, tented, backyard wedding style but it's so hard to find in jersey. So if any of you that have looked at any similar venues or have gotten married in these setting please help a lost bride!! Any comments, tips or advices would be great!

  • I am getting married next summer at the Conservatory at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. It is really beautiful you should check out their website.
  • Look at Perona Farms! They have their inside ballroom BUT they also have a barn that holds weddings. I went to an event in that barn and it was soo much fun and so, so nice! The food was amazing and the barn was really spacious. I definitely recommend it!

  • I second the barn at Perona Farms. There are pics on their Facebook page.
  • try Rutgers gardens. Not sure where you are, but it is a nice central jersey outside space.

I second the Sussex County Fairgrounds and Perona Farms - both have the kind of vibe it sounds like you're looking for.  So does the Raritan Inn at Middle Valley (http://raritaninn.com/) which I was looking into last year before we booked Rutherfurd Hall in Allamuchy.

    Good luck! :)
  • I recently had my wedding at Windows on the Water at Frogbridge, which is a beautiful tented venue.  There is a ballroom, but it's definitely not grand ballroom style, and it is right next to a gorgeous tent.  You can have cocktail hour half inside half out (in the ballroom and patio) and reception in the tent.  It's really pretty, but still pretty much a blank canvas so you incorporate your own style. And there's no site fee like a lot of other venues.  Also, food is excellent there.  Definitely check it out.

It's a ballroom but it has a barn feel:  Farmstead Golf & Country Club

There's an outdoor stone paviliion at Balleyown

If your wedding is not too big, the back deck at the Black River Bar is a good place for a party.

If you want very rustic outside & cheap talk to the Elks on Howard Blvd in Mt. Arlington They will let you put up a tent.

  • Depending on the size of your wedding.. The Raritan Inn Bed & Breakfast is a good spot. They typically set up the dancing and the photobooth/bar inside the barn with a tent to accommodate the tables outside- but the tent is right up against the barn entrance so it's a seamless walkthrough
