Dominican Republic Destination Wedding

Hi All!

We are thinking about a destination wedding in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. I've done some research and found 4 resorts I'm interested in and was hoping someone else has booked or is planning on booking with any of these resorts. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Excellence

Secrets Royal Beach

Majestic Elegance Punta Cana

Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana

Thanks my fellow brides!

Re: Dominican Republic Destination Wedding

  • I got married at the majestic colonial it was amazing and all my guests keep telling me how great it was! Which the colonial is supposed to be a step down from the elegance! I would def go back to the Dominican!

  • Awesome! Thanks for the input! The more I hear about how amazing the Dominican is, the more excited I get!

I do have a question regarding the actual ceremony. Were there a lot of resort guests that watched your wedding or was it more private?

Also, I'm VERY nervous about our wedding license. I want to make sure if for any reason in the future we need it, it's easy to get here in the US. This is my BIGGEST concern! If I'm getting married on a certain day I want that day to be recognized as my wedding day whatever country I'm in!

  • We were on the beach and I am not sure if elegance uses the same beach gazebo if its the same yes but there are some make shift gates that people did respect.

We are going through wedo with our marriage license which I just got in the mail this weekend and sent out to get translated! The spanish has our date we got married there on it.They mail it to you and after you send into get translated, if you do, they send you the english copy for 95 dollars and later if you need extras its 25 copy.

  • Those posts with ropes in the background were on both sides of the gazebo on the colonial side if you we're looking at on the beach. The garden gazebo I am not sure of on the elegance side. The colonial has a Facebook page the elegance might too, not sure but I found the Facebook page sooo helpful!

  • I seriously can't thank you enough! I've heard of the wedo site, but now I think I'll do a little more research.

    Thanks again!

Ps - The picture is beautiful!

  • Excellence is absolutely amazing I stayed there in 2009 and was BLOWN AWAY. I want to actually have my wedding there but in Mexico but its unfortunately way out of our guests budget.. Its definitely amazing though!
  • I am wondering what the legal requirements were to get married in DR and the steps you took to make sure that it was legal. I am a bride to be in April 2015 and having a legal ceremony there is very important to me. I have read conflicting information on various sites and I would appreciate any guidance you may have.

  • Sadly we ended up not doing the DR wedding. Soon to be mother-in-law did not want to travel :(
I did A LOT of research though. I believe everything needs to be written in Spanish, you have to have a blood test when you get there and you must be in the country 3 business days prior to your wedding. If you contact someone at the resort where you're looking to get married they could help you more!

    Good luck!
  • I've heard great things about Majestic Colonial/Elegance and I just had a friend return from Dreams Palm Beach and she said it was amazing! Good luck with the planning!
  • This is the only reason I do not understand getting legally married before reaching your destination. I want the day I have my ceremony to be the day on my wedding certificate and be the day that is legally recognized.

  • Hi girls!
I have been married in Dominican Republic. Majestic resort is the best place for wedding! It is really very nice! We booked Diego from coresfilms as videographer and he made for us the best wedding movie ever!! He is so professional! We are so HAPPY with our wedding trailer!!!Good luck with your wedding planning!
  • I am currently planning my destination wedding for next year but just wanted to chime in. We stayed at Majestic Elegance in November 2013 and it was beautiful. A fantastic resort and I witnessed a few weddings while we were there. From what I saw during my stay they do beautiful weddings. The ladies above are right, there are ropes which separate the gazebo and ceremony space from the beach chairs and such, so you do not have to worry about onlookers being close while the ceremony is going on.
  • I was planning my wedding at the Majestic Elegance as well! I have heard nothing but great things! We actually decided to stay at the Elegance but have our ceremony and reception at Kukua Beach Club. But I after all of my research I am so glad we will be staying at the Elegance! Cant wait!
