Re: Best wedding you attended...

  • People apparently don't like me, so I don't get invited to their weddings. That being said, I tagged along with FH to his bff's wedding last May. Although the ceremony was outside, in May, in OK, and it was sweltering (and just as windy as you might think), and the reception was sandwich type food, it was my favorite wedding. But, then again, that is probably biased because I got to dance with my FH (bf at the time) and we got to see each other for a long weekend, since he flew into TX (from GA) and we drove the 4 hours up to the location in OK.
  • I loved your post but I don't love that you don't get invited to weddings, @lplions.
It's okay, they're the ones missing out on the awesome. It's like this thing I saw the other day on tumblr...

I agree. Is it an age thing? I'm older than you (I think?) and between the ages of 25 - 29 was "the wedding years." We're just coming out of it (I'll be 30 in September and FI is 33) so this year, we are the only wedding.

@Sew, I'm in the middle of "EVERYONE IS GETTING MARRIED" season. I have personally gotten invited to 2 in the last 5 years. I had to decline the first one since it was Memorial Day weekend and I was in the AAMB, and I wasn't going to skip the Indy 500 (sorry I'm not sorry). The 2nd I went to, it was fun, but, eh. FH has been invited to three that I know of (the one we went to last May), his GM's (Sept) and one of our guests (the same day as his GM's. We're going to his GM's.)

ETA: we got his GM's STD first. the other guy's STD was received about 2 weeks ago.
  • @lplions I am invited to 6 weddings (other than mine) this wedding season. The first one was over memorial day, and the last one is October 26th. I am only attending 2 or 3 of them.
You're flying out to Indiana for my wedding to crash it?! SWEET. ;)
  • Fortunately (or unfortunately?) I will be around the following days. We are going on our honeymoon 5 days after the wedding. I will be back at work on Monday (I think) and will clearly just be staring at pics and posting!

  • I haven't been to a wedding in too many years to count.  Most of my friends were married in our mid 20's (I'll be 39 at the end of the month)

However, his was previously posted in the Controversial Songs at Weddings thread ~ When my best friend got married one of the guests, who arrived late due to having her bachelorette camping party, decided she "needed to get the party started" and requested Abba's Dancing Queen.  Not a single person is on the dance floor and she struts her way out into the middle and points her finger in the "come hither" style to a friends step-dad.  He got so embarrassed he turned beat red and beat a hasty retreat!!!  I've seriously never laughed so hard in my entire life!!!

  • I never remember the food.  I think the best weddings have been the dancing.  As long as the bride is dancing and there is good music, the wedding will be fun!

  • A wedding of a friend who had at most 25 people. It was a simple ceremony in a historic house followed by a low-key reception at an Elks Hall. They had a buffet with maybe five or six foods, a limited bar and a small cake. There were no decorations at all. The DJ took requests and we had a lot of fun dancing, socializing and meeting new people. It was simple and wonderful and I hope that our wedding is like that.

  • Weddings have died down in my crew...but I woul have to say my favorite wedding had to have been my sister's. she had some breaches of etiquette (didn't realize that until I started regularly reading the knot) - but the food was plentiful, the dj fantastic and I got to see some of my closest friends and family! We have Sunday and Monday after ours so I should be able to post some unofficial pictures!

  • We're leaving on a jetplane Sunday at like, 1:30pm, but you can bet there will be at least one picture on here before we leave. ;)
  • I've been to three weddings; one when I was a kid, and my only memory of that was my mom telling me to cross my ankles, because "Ladies don't sit like that."  What can I say, I was classless even as a child.

One I was MOH for (my bestie's wedding); my memory of that was my ex bailing out early from the reception because, though I'd warned him MONTHS in advance of the date, he moronically bought Cirque tickets with his buddy and his buddy's boyfriend.  I was furious.  Thank gawd her dad had a few kegs of Shiner Boch, so I was quite happy by the end.

The other was the wedding of two of my closest friends.  Mostly I remember eating and sitting with the table of my girlfriends and some awkwardness with (the same) ex and some chick there he'd had a brief thing with.

Overall, my wedding experiences have sucked.  This one should be good since my ex isn't coming.  ;)
