June Wedding - Indoors or Outdoors?

So I think there needs to be an official name for when you dream about a wedding and think you *know* what you want - only to find that when it actually comes down to it, you completely change your mind!

I thought I wanted to get married in June 2014 in the Juno Garden at Caesars Palace - we can't do earlier than June because my baby sister turns 21 on May 30, 2014, and I'd hate for her to miss out on the partying :) I'm realizing now that even as early as June, it may be TOO HOT to have a wedding outdoors at all! I think I've been deluding myself because here in Chicago, the June weather this year has been extremely mild.

So, for those of you who are planning or have already had a June (or late May/early July) wedding - did you decide on indoors or outdoors and why?

Re: June Wedding - Indoors or Outdoors?

  • May 30th is my birthday too!  I'll bit a older than 21 next year though.  :)

If you have your heart set on outdoors, I would do it late after the sun sets and keep it short!  It's going to be HOT.  Some of the off-strip places we looked at gave discounts in June, July and August because they know it will be hard to fill up the wedding days during those months.

Average temps in Vegas in June are high of 100, low of 70.

Keep in mind 70 is going to be in the early, early morning and it will get hotter as the day progresses.  If you and your guests are from the mid-west the dry heat is usually a shock to people too.

And just think of you and your FI in a tux and wedding dress in 100 degrees!

We had our dream wedding at Mirage on May 3, 2014!

  • Hi!

    Congrats first off :)

I just got married on June 14th and we got married at Caesars too. It was about 106 degrees at 5pm. I would suggest doing your wedding inside to avoid the heat as much as possible. I got married at the Classico Chapel and it was beautiful! If you are set on doing your wedding outside, I would suggest doing the wedding at night when it cools down a bit. We took pictures before the wedding from 1-4pm and I was sweating up a storm while we were outside. I was very happy I chose to do the wedding inside and my guests were too :)

  • If the ceremony isn't long June isn't *typically* that bad.  Average high is 99 but that's only for a few hours mid-afternoon.  If you did earlier in the day or later in the day it can easily be in the high 70's or low 80's at most.  There are of course the random super hot or unusually code days (it still gets down to mid 70's at night on average, in June).

We had our wedding June 11 and there was an outdoor area of the venue; most of the guests chose to go outside during the cocktail hour even though they didn't have to; this would have been around 5pm.

  • Thanks for all the input! I'm still undecided, but I'll at least be in a fairly light dress. My fiance will likely want to wear his new three-piece suit so I'm leaving the final decision up to him.

For any data nerds like myself, I found this really detailed statistical information:

I can't figure out how to get to the daily historical information from their main page, but if you swap out the 6/1 in the URL for whatever day you're looking at, you can see aggregated temperature data from the airport from 1999 to 2012 by the hour!
  • Hey, I'm getting married in the Juno garden on July 3rd, I realise it will be v hot but we could never ever get married outside in Scotland and the ceremony I imagine will only be 10 mins so we just went for it! I'd sit at the pool for a few hours so I'm not worried about it. My dress is knee length.
  • I just got married June 15th. It was 105 degree's. We choose indoors due to this weather. It was very dry as well, chapped lips & dry cuticles i was a mess! We had our ceremony & reception indoors and it worked out perfect. Even thou we had to relocate after ceremony; 5 minutes in the heat wasn't so bad, but i couldnt see being outdoors for longer then 10 minutes in a wedding dress in June, July or August

We are getting married on Aug. 17th at 7pm outdoors.  I know, I know, terrible.  But it will be on a marble patio at the Bellagio that is completely shaded, not in the direct sun, and the sun sets on the back side of the building away from the patio (sun will not be in everyone's face/eyes).  Also, our coordinator at the Bellagio is holding all guests inside in the AC until "show time," which means everyone will sit at the same time and we will walk down the aisle as soon as their arses hit the seats.  They will have fans and bottled water for the guests.  But most importantly, it will be a really, really, really short civil ceremony.  In total, we want them out there less than a total of 10 minutes.  Then, the reception and cocktail hour will be ALL in the AC of the Bellagio's ballroom.

So here's hoping nobody dies from the heat!!  I just keep telling myself, "it's a dry heat.... it's a dry heat... folks from Boston will think it is fine because there is no humidity..."  I know, I know... selfish of me.

  • Im getting married July 2014 im from az so we thought about out side since most of the guests are used to the heat . We decided it would be better inside but I would definitely think about a night wedding all the pics look really beautiful. I looked into outdoor indoor ceremonies such as the waterfall at the Venetian or Mandalay bay. We ultimate ly decided on belliagio because of the indoor botanical garden. I also plan on using the setup and run for outdoor pics. Have the photo grapher tell us how he wants us indoors then run outside stand click back indoors. Lol sorry for the long post the heat makes me crazy
  • I'm booked to get married in the Juno Gardens at Caesars end of July 2014. It's going to be hot hot! My theory was the ceremony will be very short therefore we won't be outside for too long but now I've read this and thinking about it even more I'm really concerned it might be a bit too hot!

Unfortunately due to work commitments and we do want to get married in the warmer months we have to get married in July. Whilst we LOVE Vegas and it's always been our dream to get married there I've never really been a fan of chapels. I find most of them to be very dated hence our decision to go outdoors.

My worry is not so much the ceremony itself as that will be quite short it's the time after when we are doing strip photo's etc...We are getting married at 3pm.

There is probably no other alternatives due to time restraints so I'm guessing I'll just have to put up with the heat! I just don't want to look all hot and sweaty in my pictures!

Hi Dee, reading your post is like reading my own situation & thoughts! I'm at 3pm Juno Gardens too. Due to the dry heat in Vegas I've never felt sweaty at all and even when wearing all my usual make up plus sunscreen it has always stayed on great. One of the reasons I love Vegas! We also need to go in July because of work commitments. We would be going over the summer regardless, we've only ever visited in July. I have a knee length dress so I'm not worried about any additional warmth from a gown.
  • Hi Knotties!! I'm getting married in 40 DAYS!! @ Caesars Palace in the Classico Chapel. I too wanted to have an outside wedding in Juno Gardens but decided against it. I had to face the facts...its just too hot to ask my guests to walk to the gardens in 100 degree heat and then sit in that heat for 15 minutes. I was so set on having an outddor wedding that I even considered outside fans, but the cost to have the fans there to basically just blow around hot hair didnt make any since. Good luck on your decision ladies..I know its a hard one. :)

  • Hi Spoon! I've been to LV when it's been hot and it wasn't too bad as its dry heat. Not sure how ill go with a wedding dress on?! I've started looking for dresses, I'm looking for one as light as possible! I just hope my make up stay on!
