Hello Knotties!
My name is Sara and my husband and I have been married for 27 days! Our wedding took place on May 25th at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in Michigan and the universe conspired to give us a perfect day to showcase all of our hard work planning and organizing the wedding. Living in the Finger Lakes and planning a wedding in Michigan was not an easy task, however. It was especially tricky finding the right seamstress in the Rochester area who could work with me making my ideal wedding dress (something along the lines of the 1950's couture gowns worn in
Anna Karenina) a reality. Luckily, after a bit of research I turned up Marleen at Meki Couture. Marleen so utterly charming, amazingly talented, and professional that designing and fitting my dress seemed to be the easiest, most enjoyable part of my entire wedding planning process! After a few emails I showed up at her studio in Fairport with nothing more than a picture of the dress I was dreaming of--six months later it was a reality as I was being spun about the dance floor by my husband. My dress was more expensive than anything I could have bought off the rack at David's Bridal, but not by that much. And really, who wants to wear a dress that was designed to fit someone else's fashion model or dress form? Marleen and I brainstormed shapes, fabrics, and accessories until my bridal outfit was a complete and coherent whole, every element--from my hairpieces, veil, and jewelry--working flawlessly in tandem with my custom made dress. I knew I wanted a "wow" moment from the crowd as they turned to see me walk down the aisle, and because of Meki, I got it!
