So we are getting married this Friday. The other day the officiant called us and said that he wanted us to drop off the marriage license/certificate so he could have it prior to our wedding day. We get in the car and I nonchalantly take it out of the envelope and am gazing over it when I notice it had the completely WRONG state for my residence (it said Washington, I put Wisconsin). I don't know how this happened--I swear I double and triple checked the info. Plus, they asked for my zip code so I don't understand how this happened. I freaked out because in my current state (MN) there is a 5 day waiting period for marriage licenses. Government offices aren't open on weekends and that means by the time Monday rolls around, we can't fulfill that waiting period. (I now live with FI in MN but I have my residence as WI because I have lived there up until recently and have not changed my driver's license or anything yet, since I am waiting to do so until my name has changed.)
The stress of this entire week of dealing with vendors and trying to finish all the DIY stuff had been getting me me and I actually started to cry, which is extremely rare for me. I was so worried that our marriage would be void because of a mistake on the license (since it says in bold everywhere MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS CORRECT. YOU MAY NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES ON THIS FORM) and the lack of available time to get a new one. I just felt so stupid that I made such an idiotic mistake and can't believe I didn't notice this earlier--we applied a month ago.
But since this incident I've had some time to think rationally--I can't be the only person in the world who has done this, right? I'm sure there is a way to fix it before the ceremony. Since we already have the license and we just need to make a correction, I doubt we need to sit the waiting period. I'll probably be able to coax them into processing a new on on Monday. I was also thinking that maybe my home state is not a huge deal--after all, they have my social security number, date of birth, and address after marriage--what more do they need to prove my identity? They have my zip code for heaven sakes...it's obvious that it should not say Washington.
*sigh* I'm just so ready to get this show over with. Thanks for letting me vent. One week from tomorrow we are heading to Mexico and I am SO ready for a vacation!
