I need AT LEAST $20 per person in menu add ons to fulfill my venue's minimum (and possibly $50 depending on the rest of the RSVPs).

Let's play a game where you help me choose :)

FYI we're currently having a full open bar with top shelf alcohol. Entrees include wild mushroom ravioli (I'm vegetarian) and NY strip steak for FI. He's allergic to nuts, but they've promised they can do all of the options nut-free.

Options below:

----------
PASSED APPS
$4/person for passed apps (we'd do mini grilled cheese, tomato bruschetta and bacon-wrapped chorizo and dates)

ADDITIONAL ENTREE
$4/person for a 3rd family-style entree option. We'd probably add some sort of chicken.

BEVERAGE STATIONS DURING COCKTAIL HOUR
  • Custom Sangria Station Featuring House Sangria, Lemonade and Choice of Two Additional Sangria Flavors: Apricot Champagne, Spicy Jalapeño, Pineapple, Mixed Berry, Strawberry, New Zealander (Kiwi), Passion Fruit and White Peach; 4.00 per person
  • Bubble Bar Featuring Champagne, Orange, Peach and Pomegranate Juices with Fresh Fruit Garnishes 5.35 per person

LATER IN THE EVENING

FOOD STATIONS
  • Cinnamon and Sugar Churros with Mexican Hot Chocolate3.25 per person
  • Home-Made Chocolate Chip Cookies with Cold Milk Shooters2.00 per person
  • Pretzels with Whole Grain and Dijon Mustard; 3.35 per person
BAR SNACK SERVICE
  • Sweet & Salty Bar Snacks with a Twist. Choice of Three: Candied Pecans, Truffled Popcorn, Sea Salt and  Pepper Popcorn, Chile-Limon Popcorn, Bayou Trail Mix, Three Pepper Spiced Pepitas, Edamame Tossed with Smoky Salt, Sweet and Salty Nut Brittle and Spicy-Salty Asian Mix; 2.25 per person
  • Upscale Coffee Bar Featuring Peets Hometown Brew in Regular and Decaf, Baileys, Kahlua, Assorted Torani Italian Flavored Syrups, Freshly Whipped Cream, White and Dark Chocolate Shavings, Cinnamon Sticks, Nutmeg Seeds and Rock Sugar Swizzle Sticks; 5.75 per person [with attendant]
DESSERT OPTIONS
DESSERT BARS
  • S’mores Bar Featuring Marshmallows and Graham Crackers Paired with Hershey’s Chocolate, Nutella, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Bananas and Strawberries (seasonal); 4.50 per person; add 1.00 per person for assorted flavors of Ghirardelli chocolate squares
  • Four-Tiered Sumptuous Chocolate Fountain with Dipping Accompaniments (rice crispy treats, marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, pineapple, pretzel rods, vanilla wafers and red licorice); 6.50 per person
  • Decadent Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream Sundaes in Waffle Cups with Assorted Toppings (chocolate fudge,  caramel, berries, Oreos, gummy bears, sprinkles, nuts, cherries, and whipped cream); 6.50 per person
DEPARTING GIFTS FOR GUESTS
(pricing based on 100 guest count minimum)
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies in Pastry Bag with Half Pints of Milk2.75 per person
--------

I tried the food, and it's REALLY good, so I trust any of these options to be amazeballs. What would you prefer as a guest? This wedding is the first weekend in August in California, so it'll be warm, but the reception is A/C'd indoors (with a large outdoor patio - we'll be in a vineyard - if guests want to go outside).

Venue also said they could probably do any suggestions we come up with, so feel free to think outside the box ;)

Thanks!

Re: Menu add-ons (I know you wanna)

  •   The passed apps- I would not eat any of those-but I don't eat pork for ethical reasons.

The additional entrée- chicken sounds like a wonderful option, especially for picky eaters who don't really love beef and hate mushrooms.

Coffee Bar- YES! YES!- Do not forget to make sure it includes iced coffee, please!

Churros and Mexican hot chocolate? Meh. Churros are only great at Disneyland.

    Smores? Yeah!!!

Chocolate fountains kinda gross me out- especially if there are any children using them.

Chocolate chip cookies and milk were listed as an option twice- late night snack or parting gift. I guess you really like them. I do too. But when I want some- I can buy a roll of dough at the store and eat them fresh out of the oven for less than $5. I wouldn't ever get excited over them at a wedding, as a present or a snack. Bring on the smores!

If you only want one add on, I rate my faves in this order:

    1: Coffee Bar with ice!

    2: Chicken entrée

    3: Smores

Your wedding sounds like fantastic fun!

  • If it were me, I'd go with the chicken entree, sangria station, coffee bar, and ice cream station.
    image
  • I would absolutely do the passed apps and the chicken entree. Everything else sounds awesome but I would be just as happy with one thing or another. If you had to choose ONLY two, definitely the passed apps and chicken.
  • Thanks all!

To clarify I need things to add up to at least $20, so definitely more than 2 options.

If literally all the rest of our RSVPs are no's, then I need at least $50 in extras (uh, in which case, apparently we're having the world's most awesome wedding because I think I can get ALL THE EXTRAS hahaha).

A lot of our guests are vegan/vegetarian, so it's a tough call. I think I might need to ask the venue for pictures - that might sway me one way or another as far as the different station/bars.

I bolded the things that sound the best to me. I am a sucker for cookies. What about a raw bar for cocktail hour and after dinner drinks with dessert? We did after dinner drinks and they were a bit hit.
What do you mean by after dinner drinks? Like frenet (sp?) and anisette and the different variations? I'll have to ask the venue what's included in the top shelf open bar, but I think those things might already be included in our package.

To get to 20, these are the ones I would want the most. =)
  • I think the passed apps sound great. Is if $4 for all of those choices or $4 each?

I'd also add a chicken entree.I think the s'mores bar sounds incredible, too.

If you're already having a top shelf open bar, I'd skip the extra alcohol since it doesn't seem to be the best use of your money. (though I certainly wouldn't be mad about the bubble bar!)

Seriously, yum. Sounds like your guests that are declining that you have to add more are seriously missing out.

$4 for ALL the passed apps. We're already having apps that will be on a table (just basics like a cheese bar, fruit platter, meatballs, olives, etc - stuff that would be at a winery since that's where we're at).

70% of our guest list is from NY for a CA wedding, and most of our guests are single (but we gave them plus 1s) so we knew we'd get a lot of declines, especially since his parents literally invited 150 courtesy invites.

BUT WHATEVS because now I get to choose extras.

  • Um, invite me and I'll eat allllllll of it. :)

Sounds amazing! I think there are no bad options. Since you have so much money to play with, I'd pick one from each category ish.

  • Can I come to your wedding? The food sounds amazing!

I'll echo what others said about chocolate fountains. Those things seriously gross me out, so you might want to steer clear.

    My choices:

Food Stations: Chocolate chip cookie station and pretzel station
    Bar service: Coffee bar, definitely.
    Dessert bars: Sundaes! Yum!
And chocolate chip cookie departing gift.

Yes. They probably are included in your open bar, but most people forget about them. If you put them out at the coffee bar, more people are likely to take advantage of it.
Gotcha! True! I'll see if they can do that.

I don't do mushroom and I tend to shy away from steaks unless they are filet or lean. If given a choice between chicken and beef on an invite, I always pick chicken. You can rarely go wrong with chicken.

    LATER IN THE EVENING

    FOOD STATIONS
    • Cinnamon and Sugar Churros with Mexican Hot Chocolate3.25 per persom (this actually sounds amazing to me, but hot chocolate in July in a warm room full of people will probably not get a lot of action)
    • Home-Made Chocolate Chip Cookies with Cold Milk Shooters2.00 per person
    • Pretzels with Whole Grain and Dijon Mustard; 3.35 per person
    BAR SNACK SERVICE
    • Sweet & Salty Bar Snacks with a Twist. Choice of Three: Candied Pecans, Truffled Popcorn, Sea Salt and  Pepper Popcorn, Chile-Limon Popcorn, Bayou Trail Mix, Three Pepper Spiced Pepitas, Edamame Tossed with Smoky Salt, Sweet and Salty Nut Brittle and Spicy-Salty Asian Mix2.25 per person

Some people would LOVE this I'm sure, but some might not drink coffee at night and I know I wouldn't be touching coffee if there were free cocktails at the bar, even with baileys and kahlua.
    DESSERT OPTIONS
    DESSERT BARS
    • S’mores Bar Featuring Marshmallows and Graham Crackers Paired with Hershey’s Chocolate, Nutella, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Bananas and Strawberries (seasonal); 4.50 per person; add 1.00 per person for assorted flavors of Ghirardelli chocolate squares (I'm drooling here. But I've always had trouble eating s'mores without graham cracker and things going everywhere. Plus the sticky marshmallow and chocolate make a mess. Also some veggies don't eat marshmallow... at least not the ones that know how they're made)
    • Four-Tiered Sumptuous Chocolate Fountain with Dipping Accompaniments (rice crispy treats, marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, pineapple, pretzel rods, vanilla wafers and red licorice); 6.50 per person (This sounds delicious, but the fruit really does get kinda icky unless they plan to refresh the trays frequently. I love fountains at more intimate gatherings like showers, but at larger weddings it feels too much like other people are sticking their fingers in my food)
    • Decadent Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream Sundaes in Waffle Cups with Assorted Toppings (chocolate fudge,  caramel, berries, Oreos, gummy bears, sprinkles, nuts, cherries, and whipped cream); 6.50 per person
    DEPARTING GIFTS FOR GUESTS

The black bolded are my favorite picks for about $20 total. I want to come to your wedding.

Another vote for passed apps, I'd love the chicken option too but if you have lots of vegetarians I could see skipping it. LOVE the coffee bar (like Lia said, see if you can have after dinner drinks stationed with it), and Ice Cream, but I'd enjoy s'mores as well. I would see if they can do another passed apps towards the end of the evening for those that aren't craving sweets after drinking your top-shelf bar all night. If the pretzels are soft this would be a good carb option, but if they're nuggets/sticks I'd skip them. I'll also second PPs that raw bars are amazing if you get more declines and the venue offers it, and to stay away from the chocolate fountain. ETA: typo

I assumed they're soft pretzels, but good call - I should double check!

  • Passed h'oerdorves would be number one. If people are drinking during cocktail hour, you want them fed immediately.

Other than that, I don't think you can really go wrong. They all sound yummy.

oh wait...Champagne tends to be  a waste. Alot of people don't drink it, so that might not be the biggest priorty

Table apps (as in, there will be a table filled with apps) are already being done - these would just be additional passed apps.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker whatshouldwecallweddings.tumblr.com
  • Do passed apps, and then more passed apps, and then even more passed apps. Are you having fruit, veggie, cheese stations during app time? If not I'd add those too. I enjoy parties where servers just keep bringing on the fod trays!
  • I'd do the passed apps, definitely a chicken entree (maybe even fish also if you need to spend more), the coffee bar, the s'more bar (we're doing one too!!), and the departing cookie gift.

I'd skip the beverage add-ons unless you go with churros and chocolate - then maybe add sangria. Chocolate fountains gross me out - our caterer won't even do them. If you do late night food stations I'd do one sweet and one savory. Do think about mid-party set up though - what would it look like if they're setting up stations at 9:30 while people are dancing? If you don't think it sounds good, you could do late night passed apps.

  • Update! I have (some) photos of the options, which I thought some of you might enjoy seeing:

I'm hoping to get pics of the other extras when I'm at the venue tomorrow for a "final meeting" way ahead of schedule since this is the only weekend I'm on the west coast :)
    Wedding Countdown Ticker whatshouldwecallweddings.tumblr.com
  • I would do passed apps, an additional entree, the coffee bar and some extra dessert like the ice cream sundae.
can they do a viennese (sp?) table? or a raw bar?
