Hi!
I am a November 2013 bride and have been trying to think of favor ideas. I love the idea of something edible or something that people will actually use, not just clutter up their counters. I love to bake, cook, etc. My fiance is usually my guinea pig who has to try whatever new recipe I've came up with. Many, many people know this because I'm constantly bringing baked goods to gatherings. We are having 250-300 people at our wedding, and we are doing a lot with mason jars for the theme. I was thinking today that I could make the "cookie dough in a jar" or "soup in a jar" recipes to give as a favor, basically it has all the dry ingredients needed in the jar. I was just looking for something to be unique, and then they can re-use the jar. (Woohoo, I know- a jar! haha) I could always just bake a lot of cookies to give, I just thought this would be a neat idea. I could be completely wrong, though! Any thoughts?

ETA: Sorry! I just looked below and saw someone asked a similar question. I am reading through those responses, as well! TIA.

Re: Mason Jar Favor

  • I think to go with your theme a "in-a-jar" recipe would go nicely. Or you could make those cute little cupcakes in a jar that people always have. I see it on pinterest all the time, or you could make little jars into adorable candle holders that go with your wedding theme (although that might be a little lame if they don't like candles). I'm having a winter wedding and as favors we're giving everybody personalized mugs with our monograms on them and hot chocolate mix and different types of tea inside. We'll also have a hot chocolate/tea/apple cider bar there for them to use.
  • You sound a lot like me! I love to bake also, and am planning on doing a cookie-in-a-jar for my favors. I actually baked cookies for my fiance for our first date, and he tells people those cookies are the reason he asked me for a second date! Unfortunately, those cookies involve a lot of wet ingredients, so that recipe would be pointless. But, I found a cookie that is similar, tested it, and it's almost as good. That way, our "Love cookies" can stay between us. I have bought the mason jars already, and found a nice fabric from the craft store and some ribbon. I plan to cut little squares of the fabric and place them on top with the ribbon. I have a very small guest list, so I don't anticipate it will take long, but with 250-300 people, that sounds like quite a bit of work! I haven't decided for sure yet, but I was also thinking of having a "test batch" of the cookies baked, and available for people to have at the wedding so they know what they are getting. Good idea??

That sounds like a great idea! I didn't even think about having a "test batch" so people would know what they were getting. That way, too they can enjoy something now and then enjoy it again later!
  • We have the idea of using mason jars as well.  Our wedding is in the fall at a winery.  We have a rustic/vintage theme going one.  I was thinking of filling the jars with candy of our wedding colors. Do you have suggestions on a good place to buy them?

Do you have a Sams or a Costco? They are sold in bulk there. :)
  • I know I may sound like a debbie downer... but, the mason jar theme is super overdone. It's certainly fine to have it at your wedding, if that's what you want.  But, I cannot imagine all 200-300 of your guests wanting a random mason jar to take home. Even if it's filled with cookie goodness.

you could do a huge cookie/brownie bar, with little to-go bags or boxes and let everyone fill up their boxes with their favorite cookies.  Everyone loves a cookie or brownie! But, I would skip the take-home glassware.

I don't know why I didn't think about that! That is a really good idea, thank you! And don't worry, you're not a debbie downer- I appreciate all the help and ideas! :)
  • I really like the mason jar idea... You can use the jar for so many other things - take a look here for some creative ideas!   http://tidbitsandtwine.com/22-creative-decorative-uses-for-mason-jars/

Hope this helps you make a decision!

  • I love the mason jar idea too. You can always use them afterwards for many different things.
  • We're giving each of our guests a mason jar as a favor and their drinking glass for the night. We're (slowly) etching each one with our wedding logo to give it a more personalized touch!
  • We had a horrible experience with Candy.com. They would not correct a wrong delivery for our son's wedding. Their product was to be the wedding favor. Knowing this, they still took our money, but would not deliver to the right place.
