October 2013 Weddings

How was everyone's weekend?

Happy Monday everyone!  How was everyone's weekend? Mine was pretty good - but too short! Thank goodness for a holiday on Thursday :). FI gets to work from home this week on Monday and Friday - I'm a BIT jealous :)

Did anyone do wedding things over the weekend? I did absolutely ZERO wedding related tasks this weekend. One cool thing I did was go to the AT&T National Golf Tourney in MD - one of my BM got tickets for a chalet on the 18th hole (fancy tent) that was free food and booze - despite the heat it was an awesome afternoon!

Would love to hear what everyone else did!

FH and I finalized the menu and the bar choices! Turns out I was overthinking what we had to get done, and we only had to select 2 "entree" choices from the menu we were given. Hurrah! So that's done, now I just need to tell the caterer.
I forgot to bring the belly bands (paper wraps, basically) with me when I visited at the beginning of June, so I've been working on adding those to the invitations. There are a few addresses that need to be updated (2 were printed wrong, since they moved and FH forgot to mention it, oh well) so hopefully those will get done soon because I'm planning on mailing these guys out at the end of the month!! Eeee!

Beyond that, not much wedding stuff. I was informed yesterday that I'm going to be helping teach VBS, and then I volunteered to help decorate for it. I'm actually really excited for it. Although I'm still very new at teaching Sunday School, the kids aren't afraid to run up and hug me when they see me in WalMart, haha.

@schellzinator What part of MD are you in or near?
  • @lplions - isn't that a great feeling - kiddos running up to you in Walmart! I coached softball at my old church for a while and I loved when I would see the girls outside of practice/games. Made me feel like I was making a difference...

I'm in the DC metro area - used to live in Bethesda, Silver Spring and now Damascus.  How about you?

  • No wedding things. I know the shower invites are being sent out today though!

We had a garage sale all weekend and....

FI tore out the wall between our kitchen and living room. I cannot wait for it to be done.

5 (or was it 6?) Harley dealerships on Saturday in 107 degree temps ON the bike just tore me down.  We did one stop I pretty much fell off the bike and sat in the shade before I could even get inside.  That sucked.  Seriously Harley, let's NOT do set this tour again next year in the summer, mkay?  PleaseAndThankYou!

Sunday was one dealer, and I got a super snazzy new helmet (my old one was always to tight, and gave me a gnarly headache).  New one is glittery with purple on it.  It was made for me.  :)

Raced home, went to my ATS class after a fast shower, then collapsed at home and worked on some laundry.

Invite wording is all completed.  Just waiting for a good sale through Michael's then I'll be done with those suckers.  :)  Mom's starting on my crinoline once I get her my waist measurement.  And that's ALL I've done wedding related.

Oh, and I ordered my shoes last week.

And I'm stalking the Alfred Angelo site, my dress was supposed to ship 6/28.  My longline bra shows shipped.  But the dress still shows "Being Sewn".  I'm getting SUPER irritated.  *sigh*  Those June brides are already married, get on with it!!!
  • In wedding-related news, I bought my fiance's wedding band on Saturday!:

I also went to my first bachelorette party on Saturday and it was... interesting. I didn't drink all night because I don't drink, so I approached it like a journalist. I watched, took pictures and made sure people didn't accidentally kill themselves by weaving into traffic from the sidewalk.

Yesterday, we went to the zoo and bought a membership because we go there so often.

I'm not looking forward to this week because the patient load gets ludicrous on holiday weeks. We have 59 patients tomorrow with only five desk nurses. Treatment room nurses can both take three patients each, but that still leaves 10 or 11 patients for everyone else. It's insane.

One of my best friends is coming to stay with us for a few days starting tomorrow though, so I'm excited about that!!

  • @schellzinator I may be moving to the Salisbury area in 2 months. But, I may not be. I wish I knew.

Oh. I got some excellent pool time in on Saturday. And another good run, but then I ruined validated it with half a pint of Ben & Jerry's canoli ice cream. :D
  • We found a wedding band for me! We also decided on cake flavors/design, now it's my turn to Joanns/Michaels stalk because I have to buy a bunch of ribbon and some silk flowers. :-)

  • My weekend was super busy - some wedding related, some not.

My sister's husband was on a business trip for most of last week, so I had been staying with her for 4 nights to help her out with her 3 year old and 4 month old. So in between everything else, I was with her overnight.

Friday (I had off) I went to Crate and Barrel with my mom, aunt and sister - they wanted to shop for  me off of the registry and wanted to look with me. Lots of fun. Lunch at Panera and more shopping after.

Saturday I worked on finishing all invites - all are stuffed and stamped. They need to be sealed, but otherwise they are ready to go. I think I have about 5 more to still do (missing/new addresses) but nothing I can't do quickly.

Then, I spent the majority of the day out by our pool. Gorgeous (hot) weather and the water was the perfect temperature. My sister and her kids, my parents, nephew's friend and his mom, FI all were there too.

That evening I went out to dinner with FI and then to a driving range.

Sunday was cleaning and house stuff, and food shopping. Then, I got a call from two of my bridesmaids that they were working on shower crafts and wanted to know if I wanted to stop by - so I did for about 2.5 hours before going to a joint graduation party for 3 of FI's cousins.

Busy, busy! But, invites are ready and shower decorations are looking good!

  • Sounds like everyone had productive weekends!

@shaylagirl - refresh my memory - are you in the market for a harley for yourself? FI? or none of the above?

  • I had a great weekend!

I got to attend my 2nd cousins wedding and visit family. I haven't seen my cousin in about 15 years, he's a year younger then me and we were obviously closer as kids. He lives in Memphis while I'm down in DFW.

The wedding was nice. They were married in a Methodist church and they had 24 in the wedding party! I heard the final total for the guest attending was 430!!! I loved her colors! Gray/Silver with dusty rose as an accent.

The reception was alittle disorganized though. There was no seating assignment and no dinner. The reception started around 7 and the only food served was passed appetizers and a small buffet with a mashed potato bar and some other hot food. They served beer, wine and a signature drink which was Apple Pie Moonshine (super good)! They only had one line for food which took forever with that many people and I was standing in line when the MC introduced them and the wedding party. I also missed their first dance due to getting food. They also did their cake cutting while people were still eating.

The only thing that I really enjoyed was the band. They were amazing! They played Motown mostly and then some 70s and 80s music. I found out that my FI is quite the dancer! We had so much fun!!! I only got to visit my cousin for about 5 seconds. There were so many people to talk to that he only came by to say hello and get a hug. I didn't even get a chance to introduce my FI. Also, he wasn't going around with his wife to visit with everyone so I never got a chance to meet her either.

The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was a blast but I honestly didn't feel like it mattered we were there. I've never been to a wedding with so many people. It was really nice to visit with family though and my FI got to meet alot of them before they come down for ours. Now that I have something to compare to (because the last one I went to was 10 years ago and haven't been to many anyway) I feel alot better knowing that I'm confident in my planning and organization.

I also ordered my invitations!!! So super excited to see them in person. It makes it more real! We will mail them the 3rd week of August. I'm also going to the reception site on Friday afternoon to do a mock set up of decor.

FI's dad and his girlfriend are planning to come down and look at rehearsal restaurants. This has been the biggest pain of all. We have tried to get them to come down a couple times before. His GF is trying to make this into a mini reception and spending way more money then necessary. I honestly don't care where we eat and I'm grateful that they are hosting for us but I feel like they want us to pick the place and in reality they want us to pick the place they want. I'm hoping this goes well. Wish me luck!

Looking forward to the holiday! Happy 4th everyone!

  • I orders our custom decal for the side of our mailbox card holder and I ordered the tags for the boutonnieres but the company said the couldn't do them. :o( I want something like the attached and I am not having any luck finding another company to do them for inexpensive price ( The place I ordered from originally would have been $35 for 15 tags)
  • @schellzinator - No more Harleys for us (right now)!  He just bought himself a bright yellow Wide Glide because his Fat Boy wasn't comfortable for these weekend long trips we seem to end up taking with our friends (or even just cruising around town on a day trip).

I tried SO hard to talk him into a purple one though.  He said if I'd learn to ride, I could get a purple Harley.

Honestly, my son's going to take a motorcycle safety course sometime (he wants one so bad he can taste it), and I said I'd take it with him.  One, to make me a better passenger.  Two, in case something happens to FI, I can get our current bike home.  Three...I actually think those chicks who ride are kinda bad ass (the couple we ride with, she rides).  And, then I could get my purple bike.  Plus, if we have another kiddo, all three of us could go on trips together.

Mostly the goal of the 'tour' is for people to get on their bikes, visit dealerships (spend money on shirts and various 'shit') and meet other riders.  I actually enjoy riding, and I like visiting the dealerships, but EFF THIS TEXAS HEAT!  :)

PS-I don't know diddly about motorcycles.  I only know what he's had and what he currently has because he's mentioned it so often.  I seriously get confused because he had a Fat Boy, and our chick friend who rides has a Fat Bob.  It hurts my head.  Then they throw in "Dyna" and "Wide Glide" and "Street Glide" and "Road King".  Mostly I ask him "So, is that the kind of bike that 'X Person' has?"  "No, that's the bike 'Y Person' has."  "Oh.  That bike is blue."

    I'm such an idjit.

  • @shaylagirl - as a kid I always wanted a motorcycle...now that I'm in my 30s - I don't want my own - but I enjoy being a passenger!  The tour sounds fun!
