Mailing Invitations Out

Re: Mailing Invitations Out

  • I'm an October 6th bride and seeing them out on August 1st, bridal shower on August 18th, so excited!
  • Well we are Oct. 12th and I still haven't gotten any!! I seriously cannot find any that I like. Probably because I don't know what I want! I've looked on Vistaprint and looked for invitation kits. I really wish weddingchicks had one that I liked but they really don't (maybe the art deco one).  Luckily no one is coming from out of town. Anyone have any other ideas?

we found ours on davidsbridal.com. I didn't expect to find "the one" there, but was happily surprised. :)
  • I used Magnet Street, I loved the designs they had and the prices were reasonable plus the quality of the paper makes them seem more expensive then they are.  You can always seem to get a coupon too for them.  I have gotten a lot of compliments on my invitations, they seem to be a hit!

  • That was my problem @jessfaith15!  I JUST ordered my invites on July 27th through MiDesign with Michael's (they're currently doing 25% off any order over like $149 I think).

75 invites/reception cards/RSVP cards, 100 envelopes (outer and inner), all the RSVP envelopes will have our address pre-printed on them; total cost before our discount was like $416.  But, mine were semi-fancy (they have a sheer 'veil' that we'll tie over the invites with our names printed on it).

But, I went through Etsy, Wedding Paper Divas, Minted (?), and just any sort of Google search I could do.

Depending on when you need your RSVPs returned (I set our RSVP date 10/1 for our 10/19 wedding, but our venue doesn't need numbers until a few days before the date),  you'll need to get on it.  I had an original estimate from MiDesign for 2 weeks to get my invites in my hands, pushing me past when they needed to go out.  However, got the email this morning they're being shipped today, so that was quicker than I'd anticipated; 9 day turn around.

You can always go in to Michael's, Hobby Lobby or Joanne's and get invites off the shelf, take them to Kinko's or another place that prints, and have them printed professionally if you're having troubles.

Or, we were looking at buying archival paper cut to size with a back and the invite on top of that and making them ourselves.

    Good luck!!
  • i got mine custom made at a local store in the old port in portland maine. they came out absolutely beautiful!

  • My invites should go out in about 2 weeks, with a Oct 5 RSVP, and the wedding on Oct 26. FI's aunt did the calligraphy in 4 days! Will def be sending a nice thank you note.
  • Wow, our venue only needs our numbers less than 10 days in advance and I won't even send our invitations out for another three weeks.
Same here.  Final count is due like 3 days before.  The need menu selections like 10 days out to order the food.  Mine will be going in the mail this week.  They are stamped and sitting in my car...I just need to have the time to get to the post office.  Our RSVP date is 9/28 which should give me plenty of time to get everything together.

  • Our wedding is 10/25 and I could potentially get them out this week. We're finishing the stuffing and sealing tonight but I had to send a handful back to the calligrapher for correction. I should probably wait to get those back but I'm DYING to just get them out of my house and check them off the list! My RSVP by date is 9/27 and I don't think my venue needs the final count till 7 days prior, BUT there is a lot I need to buy that is dependent on how many guests/tables we'll have so I'd like to get my final count as early as I can.
  • Our wedding is Oct. 25th with an RSVP requested by Oct. 1st. I'm planning to mail them by the 15th of this month.
  • I got mine on magnet street as well.  They are going out tomorrow!  what a project!  I will be so happy when they are out!

  • We are getting married 10/26 and people were begging for them.  They were sent the middle of July for a Sept 21st return date.  And now friends who live within driving distance (within a 45min drive) are asking for hotel rooms.  I had so many people ask that I spent the last few days hunting down blocks of rooms for guest.  Not something I ever thought I would have needed to do since the family coming from out of state will just stay with other family as usual. Now we are talking about renting shuttles from and too the hotel!  God help my wallet!

We are getting a shuttle as well, our hotel offers a one time drop off and one time pick up for $350, we haven't booked it yet, but we probably will. The last thing we want is anyone to drive back to the hotel drunk.
  • We got our invitations from MyGatsby - LOVED them.  You can customize everything, which I loved.  Mailed them out yesterday!!

We're also doing a shuttle.  Full open bar + lots of drinkers - figured a shuttle was the best option for guests getting home vs. everyone having to scramble for cabs, but man is it expensive!
  • I finally decided to make my own. I bought a kit of plane ivory paper with the invitations and envelopes and response cards and envelopes from Hobby Lobby and use one of their 40% off coupons and got them for $15. Can't beat .30 an invitation and they look great on the ivory paper. (btw the final draft said "at four o'clock")

  • Should have been *plain.  I work with planes so I guess that is what I'm usually typing :)

26th here too, and I'm mailing them today. Why are you waiting?
  • Well, my invites are all assembled and blinged out (I thought they were a bit plain, so big sis and I added some rhinestones), now I've got to finish putting things together, address envelopes, figure out WHAT to do about my reception card (don't ask...I can't spell 'immediately' apparently), and order the postage and drop them in the mail box.  I figure they'll be out of my hands before 9/1.  I've only got 3 invites leaving the state; 2 to NY and 1 to CA.  Everything else is pretty local.
  • @lplions - my grandmother made a comment about how early I was planning on sending them - love her to death - but she likes to stir the pot sometimes and I thought it would be easier to acquiesce to her.

However, late last night I received a text from my mom - "Grandmom asked if you sent the invites yet. She said she was thinking about it and u are right. Not too soon to send them out." So I might send them out on Thursday like I planned.

@lplions - YAY for you!!!! I bet that was a great feeling!

When my grandmom first made this comment - FI and I were joking around and saying that we would send everyone - except my grandmom's - on Thursday and then wait until September 1 to send hers :)  If she asked - we were going to say - "But Grandmom - you said you didn't want yours until the first."

I KNOW I would lose my favorite grand-daughter status.

Reason I was willing to give in was because I pretty much know my "no's" right now and the invitations seem like more of a formality at this point!

....and they will be going out on Thursday - dropping them off at the post office right before I go food shopping for my annual ladies' camping trip!!!

  • I'm getting married 10/26 and my invitations went out at the very beginning of August.  Almost all of our guests are OOT, however, and need ample time for planning.
  • We're getting married on 10/12 and we sent our invites out at the end of July with an RSVP date of 9/12. Venue wants final guest count by 9/21. We sent the invites out a little early because 70% of our guest list is OOT, and a couple people have funky work schedules that they would need to figure out getting off work well in advance (FBIL is a truck driver on the road for 6-8 weeks at a time, and one of FI's aunts owns/is head chef of her own restaurant and needed to make preparations for that).
I completely DIYed our invites - I created them in photoshop and printed at cardstock on home. I'm quite proud of how they turned out! And I got all my paper on sale at Joann's, so between the paper, envelopes and the lace I used, I probably spent no more than $30 on the invites.
