Veil

I haven't bought the dress yet but i am 99% sure it is the one.  I am going dress shopping again tonight :-)  I was very opposed to wearing a veil - just thought it would look ridiculous on me (age 38) BUT now i am having second thoughts.

What type of veil do you think would look nice with this dress (if any)?  My hair is shoulder length, medium brown and i plan on wearing it part up and part down.  I know I don't like "birdcage" style veils but i am open to anything else!  Thanks in advance!

Re: Veil

  • Pssh, I don't think age has anything to do with wearing a veil. You're a bride, aren't you?

I don't think you can really go wrong with a fingertip length veil, maybe with a small trim or beading along the edge? I like the look when the veil is just kind of tucked into the pinned up hair in the back.

When you go dress shopping again, ask if they'll let you play around with veils. I ended up liking a cathedral length (which I NEVER had thought of before). Keep in mind that most salons charge and arm and a leg for veils, so don't be pressured to buy theirs.

    Pretty dress! Good luck!

You'll need to try on veils with your dress at the bridal salon. The veil in the picture looks good on the model, but it may look entirely different on you.

Don't base your decision off of your age...base it off of how you feel in the dress with the veil.

  • My sister in law just wore this dress in May and it is beautiful! It moved so well with her. She wore a fingertip length veil with some beading around the edges. The details were a nice compliment to the simplicity of the dress. I agree with trying on lots of different veils at the store, but look online too. I had a vision of what I wanted after deciding on chapel length. None of the veils at DB did it for me, so I had mine custom made from an etsy store and it is perfect.

  • First of all, that gown is going to be so flattering!  Very very pretty.

I always tell my girls, IT'S THE ONLY DAY YOU EVER GET TO WEAR A VEIL and it's only going to be for like an hour so embrace it!!!

Depending on your look and desired feel you could really play with this look since the style of your gown supports any veil you could want.

A single layer raw edge cathedral veil is going to make the look more sweeping and will elongate your body.

Waltz length is a great variation on this because you get the look without the bulk.

Fingertip will be right around your low back and you'll be able to feel it on your arms.  Make sure it hits your body in a flattering place.

Elbow is going to be more playful and "bouncy".  You'll find that this one ends up wrapping your shoulders a bit.

No matter what you're going to be gorgeous :)
  • LOVE your dress!  I wore a very similar dress for my wedding and I chose a birdcage veil.  To me the veil is the icing on the cake.  It's your way to add a little personality.  I would suggest a bubble veil for you and maybe a small flower clip (check out etsy.com for these).  You can wear the flower clip/hair comb after the ceremony and it still makes you feel like a bride.  Wear what makes you feel special!  Best wishes to you!
