My FI wanted This Year's Love as a first dance song (which I nixed- love the song, but the message is a tad pessimistic) We were thinking of compromising with Sail Away by David Gray. Is this an appropriate first dance song? Opinions?
I agree. I love the song and actually went through this same thought process about it. I also thought about Band of Horses "No One's Gonna Love you." Lyrics were very important to me when choosing songs. I didn't want anything that was really about a break up or had any stuff that didn't apply to us.
When I hear This Year's Love, I think that it is about someone who's been through a lot of heartbreak and is hopeful that this new relationship is going to work out. Not really the message I'd want to send.
We used "This Years Love" as an instrumental song for the Unity ceremony. It's a beautiful melody but we nixed it as a first dance song for the lyrics. I do love the song though so we worked it in elsewhere.
