Cocktail Chic??

I'm going to my boyfriend's cousin's out-of-town wedding next month.  The wedding invitation specifies the dress code as Black Tie Invited (ugh..make it black tie or don't make it black tie, come on!).  Now the REHEARSAL DINNER specifies the dress code as Cocktail Chic.  Ok, first of all..I've never seen a dress code specified on a rehearsal dinner invitation.  But fine, they want to emphasize that it's a fancy dinner.  Now I obviously know what cocktail attire means, but cocktail chic??  Isn't chic a matter of opinion?  Will I be denied entry if I'm not looking chic enough?  What would you ladies wear? (ie- would you wear anything different than you would for a regular cocktail attire party?)

Re: Cocktail Chic??

  • it means nothing to short. it should  almost knee length no clevage showing. dress up the dress with some statmement shoes ex your dress is black do a colored heal or pump. add some bling accessories..

i dont see that you would be thrown out of a rehersal dinner that would be very rude. i just think they want you to be in cocktail atire as the venue they are having the rehersal has a dress code

  • Just wear what you would normally wear to a cocktail party.

I am a bit appalled that they are dictating attire not only for their wedding but also for their rehearsal dinner.  That is a bit ridiculous.

  • I agree with Maggie. Just find a cute cocktail dress and call it a day.

Rehearsal Dinner dress code (and not even a real dress code) - really? Ridiculous.

  • I agree that cocktail attire is fine...chic doesn't really mean much here.

As for requiring a dress code, I don't think they're doing that. I think they're putting a style on so they don't get questioned 'is it casual or fancy' and let's guests know what type of a place it is. We specified casual on ours for that reason. I've seen casual, upscale casual and cocktail all on rehearsal invites before. They all correlate to the venue for guests honatent familiat. I actuallt appreciate the info!
