help! I lost my ring :(

Yesterday was the worst day of my life, because I lost my engagement ring.  My FH and I were at Quaker Steak in Robinson, and I had taken off my ring to clean my hands with one of the wipes at the table.  By the time we got home (Ingram), I realized I hadn't put it back on.  I was racing back to the restaurant, and had called them in the meantime.  They had torn apart the booth and checked under the table.  They told me that they talked to the waitress and to the kids who bused the table.  They tore the booth apart again when I got back there, and after I talked to the manager I went through three garbage cans along with the manager and two busboys.  I also helped them go through all the trash they had just taken out in the dumpsters.  I knew it wasn't in the bathroom because I hadn't gotten up once during the meal, and I distinctly remember laying on the table at the restaurant.  After no luck, FH and I went to the North Fayette PD to file a report just in case.  I'm not accusing anyone at the restaurant of stealing it, but I wanted to have my bases covered.  I'm also checking craigslist, ebay, and we're going to start canvassing the pawn shops in the city.

I'm fortunate that the ring is insured, and I've never felt such guilt and pain in my life, as the ring was comprised of FH's family heirlooms and because I took off the ring, it's gone.  I was wondering, is there anything else I can do?  We turned the car, the house, and my purse upside down several times just to make sure.  I just don't know if there's another option I have to look for it.  Any help or suggestions are really appreciated.

Sounds like you've done all you can, to be honest. I'm sorry that you lost your ring, that's really sucky. I'm not sure filing a police report would do much. Once you leave it behind it is likely to be considered abandoned property, which anyone can grab. Stealing would be if they took it off your finger or out of your car (i.e., private property). Since it was a restaurant and probably sitting on the table, it's not really considered stealing. However, turning it in is the considerate and right thing to do. It sounds like it may have gotten scooped up when the table was bussed. I hope that you're able to get a very nice replacement ring. Best of luck!

Oh I am so sorry to hear that.... I can't imagine losing my ring and my heart goes out to you. I hate to say it but it sounds like it was stolen. People are terrible, and could care less about what it means to take something from others, especially something as important as an engagement ring.

I would keep looking through pawn shops and on Craigs list. If it was stolen, it will be sold somewhere.

I"m so sorry to hear this.

This may sound stupid but did you check your pockets. Mine fell off in my pocket one time because my hands were wet.
