NER- Bride's Worst Nightmare Come True

Re: NER- Bride's Worst Nightmare Come True

  • Well, this is my worst nightmare, bc if my groom doesn't show up, I'll just continue collecting child support and he can F off. ;) (Please catch my humor here.)

Well... I would like to keep the meal at $16 per plate or below. Alcohol doesn't matter, IL's are covering beer & wine. I would have a bigger budget for food had I not invited so many ppl. My prior venue only required we spend $10/head someway, somehow. My aunt was going to be making most of our food bc they were like the only place ever that allowed you to bring food in.

Anyone else not see the humor in this? I don't find that funny at all but whatever.

Try local libraries, VFW's in the area can be rented really cheap. If you cant afford food there is nothing wrong with having a short reception with cake and punch. It may not be ideal but it would be better than nothing

Yep. I thought it was a dumb comment.  This is a legit nightmare for any bride, but using people for child support is NOT cool.

    Edited for clarity.

Please enlighten me how some asshole who jilts a bride at the altar and leaves her with kids is getting 'used'. I'm all ears as to how the poor unfortunate man who couldn't keep his penis under wraps deserves to not feed his children. I'll get the 'poor baby' mylar balloons ready for the pity party.

Because leaving a bride at the alter does not mean he's going to ditch his kids and not be in their lives.

It doesn't mean that the jilted bride shouldn't be a responsible mother and legally ensure her children recieve the support they are entitled to. I still fail to see how this is a 'poor him' situation.

@bullfrogmama We had this same thing happen to us 2 weeks after putting down our $2000 deposit.

Did you happen to put your deposit/payments onto a credit card? If you did, you might be in luck. Call the credit card company immediately (thats what we did) and report it as fraud. Let them know your situation, that they took your money and are not providing the services that they promised, and your credit card company will refund your money.

We had a refund on our credit card the next day!

    Good Luck!!
  • Dittto CMGR - I can't imagine how crazy this is making you now, it's so unexpected. But try to breathe, start calling these new venues, and it will come together. It sounds like a ton of peopel are excited to celebrate your awesome day. Let us know if we can be helpful -

  • Well, the news just interviewed me for a segment they're doing on it. Going to air tonight on TMJ 4! That part was actually kind of exciting. :)

I have narrowed down about 3 places that are only slightly out of our budget... just need to lock one down.

  • I saw you on the news tonight! I hope that everything turns out okay.  Let us know how it works out!
  • That is great news!  I'm sorry you had to go through this, but glad it worked out.
  • Awesome!  Happy to hear everything worked out!
Don't worry guys, I have the Wedding Police AND the Whambulance on speed dial!
  • Thanks, me too. :) Now I just have to figure out how to act in such a fancy venue. The one that closed on us was a bowling alley. We're not fancy folks. ;)

  • Lol- I can do that!
  • So happy for you!  This why everyone should buy local and support local businesses!  Sadly, it seems the one screwed you over but look how many stepped up to take care of you!  Enjoy every second : )
  • Great news!!! So the nightmare took a u-turn into a fancy dream wedding. :) Very happy for you OP!

  • I'm also in Milwaukee.... look into South Shore Pavillion! It's a city park building right on the lake... gorgeous location and I think around $500 to rent? And you can bring in your own food! Good luck.
  • whoops, wrote something before I saw that you will have it at Poto. Awesome!
  • Root River Center in Franklin, WI. It's a bowling alley... so not classy like most of you probably have... but it's what we could afford to host all our friends and family. :)

But yah, they're done. And they aren't responding at all.

We'll find something. But we'll probably end up paying out our ass and going into debt. The majority of the people coming are expecting a huge party... cake and punch won't cut it. And we're not even getting married in a church.

IL's have offered to float us $ to cover the new venue if need be. We'll pay them back w/ wedding gifts and tax returns. Thanks for all your sympathizing.

Call your local college.  Their graduations are usually in May and December, so they should be ok to reserve.  If they have a culinary program, they might be able to cater at a reasonable price - they can get experience and you get a great price.
  • So glad this is working out for you!

  • perhaps reach out to nearby facilities and see if any will give you the sympathy vote and help you out...Some places really rise to the occasion maybe??? It definitely won't hurt to try
  • Wow, I'm so glad that everything worked out so well! I know that you had to go through some major stress and headaches, but it sounds like everything turned out for the best.  It's awesome that you get a great venue that is still in your price range.  Best wishes for your wedding day!
  • Yeah.... So happy you found a good place.  I'm in MKE too and knew how hard it was to find the right venue.

Props to Potowatami too for stepping up....I was just going to suggest you explain the situation to future venues to see if they could help out, but looks like it was already done for you.

Sounds like its going to be a great day and you'll have a good story to tell afterwards.

Let the lawyers keep up with the old venue to go after a breach of contract and to cover extra costs imposed on you and your FI, if they can find the venue owners....
