Shower guests to bring money and booze to help with the wedding instead of gifts?

I received an invitation to a bridal shower that contained a really cute poem about how they don't want gifts but help with the wedding itself.  They want money and booze.  I am not sure how to feel about this.  My first thought is that if you can't afford it, why are you having a big wedding?! Maybe I am wrong.. Any thoughts?!?

My thoughts? Wow, just wow! I would have prior plans the day of the shower, whatever day it is. Then I'd send a card...with only well wishes inside.

Decline the shower. If it were me, I'd send a card and a household gift (picture frame, vase, pitcher, etc)

Though it's certainly not required to send a gift.

My initial response "you've got to be kidding me".
Are they expecting people to bring them like top shelf liquor? I would personal not attend, but jokingly would say I would bring a couple 40s

I think it's crude. I'd decline that shower invitation.

You want booze and cash
to fund your bash
instead of gifts?
That will cause rifts.

Agreed - a crude and rude idea.  Just decline the invitation.  I'll bet a lot of people do.

I'm starting to think that people do this stuff just to be talked about. I refuse to believe anyone actually thinks this is a good idea.

I'd either decline or if I couldn't decline due to too much pressure, I'd show up with a gift in hand that I'd claim I purchased well before that atrocious thing hit my mailbox.
