Looking for Wedding Cupcake Vendor...

I need help. I'm looking for someone to make wedding cupcakes & I've already tried a few places. I'm finding a lot of bakeries make there cupcake frosting so rich & dense I feel sick to my stomach after eating one. Does anyone know of a bakery that makes simple but beautifully decorated cupcakes with a lighter frosting? Who is your overall favorite cupcake baker & why?

Re: Looking for Wedding Cupcake Vendor...

  • I love Resch's Bakery, best cake in town. Cupcakes can be tricky, bc as you said they can be super sweet and heavy. But I think Resch's has the best cake in town;, very light and fluffy. After Resch's I actually like the ones at Giant Eagle with Martha's butter cream frosting. What about Golden Delight? Don't know i they do cupcakes, but they are light and simple.

Jan Kish has some devine cupcakes, and I have heard great things about the new bakery in German village, Kittie Cakes.

Our Cupcakery in Dublin was one of the first local "cupcake players" ... have you tried them?

Make sure you tell any potential baker to suggest or offer you a beautiful and LIGHT treat ....  I would think any professional could handle that request.

  • I love Carrie's Sugar Buzz!  She makes the most delicious and beautiful cupcakes!  Check out her website http://www.carriessugarbuzz.com
  • @donethat - I just tried a cupcake from Kittie Cakes. They are exactly what I'm looking for as far as taste goes...only downfall...$2.25 per mini cupcake. It's probably worth it, but I'm going to continue looking for a cheaper option. I HIGHLY recommend them if you're not on a tight budget or if you are in German Village & looking for a sweet treat.

  • Glad you tried them - now I'll have to do the same!  :-)

$2.25 "per person" for a fabulous cupcake is possibly less than per person for an "average" cake... but you know what your budget is, how much wiggle room you have, and how much time you have to continue the search!

Good hunting - I'll post again if I hear of anything ....

  • Here's a thought - does your caterer include dessert with your dinner option?
Many do, and perhaps they offer cupcakes.
We opted to serve cake and pie from the dessert options our venue offered with our buffet and only cut a small cake that was not served to guests. We could have paid for a cake and they waived the dessert in place of the cake cutting fee.
It saved us a ton of money!

  • @donethat - I agree $2.25 is pretty cheap but I was thinking with mini cupcakes guests would probably have two making it $4.50 per person, which is cost competitive vs. serving cake, but a little high when you consider other baker's cupcakes.

@photokitty - I'm almost positive they do not provide a desert option, however if we were to bring in a cake, I don't think they don't charge for cutting the cake or if they do it's "rolled into" another cost.

The good news is...I think I found my bakery. Suisse Shop cupcakes are exactly what I'm looking for. They have a few types of icing...one is dense & buttery (not as sweet). I didn't care for this, but the other is lighter & sweater and it really good. They are decorated simply & beautifully. Each cupcake has a simple garnish...a raspberry, a buckeye candy, a chocolate shaving, etc. Also, they run about $3.00 a piece and they are a decent size.

I've got one more appt. with another vendor, but Suisse Shop is going to be hard to beat. Keep you posted. Thanks for all the recommendations.

  • Suisse Shop has a great reputation - don't think you can go wrong with them.  Glad you found something you liked.

  • Just throwing it out there, but try asking around your work place and things like that! I found a baker who bakes out of their home and her cake was AMAZING!!! and it cost me around $250 for a two tier wedding cake and 75 cupcakes. We used Paulines Kitchen out of Newark, Ohio... but these places exist everywhere!
