1 of 8 bridesmaids doesnt like gown! Help!

Hi everyone,

At my bridesmaids request, we are in the process of picking out their gowns. My wedding isnt until next May but they want to make their purchases before the holidays (they can each purchase them whenever they want before deadline). We have our 1st appt in 2 weeks when my MOH will be in town (5 of 8 BM's will be going).

Of course I have asked them all for their budgets and preferable dress style. All of my BM's picked the same gown as their #1 favorite, (emailed pics) which ironically is my favorite (I did not indicate my preferences).  Problem: I have one BM who doesnt like the favorite. As a matter of fact, she doesnt like any of the gowns that the others like (of 9 gowns they all like 7 of them-she likes none). Her reasons are always the same per dress: It will show her " fat bulges" and doesnt show enough "cleavage" which she says "distracts" from her "bulges."

I'm anticipating a big headache. One BM already told her that "no dress is going to hide those bulges...if your so concerned go on a diet." She responded with, " I don't want to lose my boobs." So be it. Its her choice. I certainly can't dictate to anyone that they need to lose weight!  Of course I want them all to be comfortable in what they wear and purchase but I dont think its fair to the 7 others if I have to choose a gown to compliment only her body (3 of my BM's have respectfully expressed the same thought). I know I could have all of them pick their own gowns/style in the color of my choosing but they all favor this same one, again, my favorite.

 I honestly think that she won't be happy unless her "puppies" are up & out, but that's not happening! Anyone go through something like this? Should I just stand ground on this?

Could you choose a color, designer and fabric and let them mismatch? That way everyone will like the dress they choose. 8 bridesmaids is a lot, and no way they have eight of the exact same body types.

I would stand your ground on the cleavage thing. Just tell her it isn't appropriate.

7 out of 8 is a miracle. Can you imagine 7 out of 8 WOMEN agreeing on ANYTHING other than red wine and chocolate? Get the dress. Tell the party pooper that the majority wins and that you are sorry- but you can't expect everyone to love the same thing.

I just said this in my XP post on etiquette!! Im so excited & amazed! Seemed too easy! I think I will stand my ground. I make 8 who love it (even though Im not wearing it).  I think it would be another miracle if we find one that all 7 like again..never mind 8!

I agree that majority dress should win this one.  Seven out of eight in agreement is great!

And the last thing you want is to let them all pick their own dresses and the booberific BM decides to go low cut.  Then you would be stuck with whatever she selected since you left the criteria open for interpretation.

First she's a BM, she needs to suck it up & wear it or step down. OK, that was harsh. Now to the nicer version, tell her to give the dresses a chance when you go to try dresses on, maybe the dresses will look better on her then she thinks she will. Maybe suggest to her to give you a few examples of dresses that she likes. You never know, something she picks out may end up being something you and the other BM like as well.
