Your honest opinion needed

The high cost of weddings has me extremely worried. However, while wondering around Party City (just waiting time) and I saw that they are selling a bridal veil (from the pic it's the length I want) for $9.99. If its the length and style I like, should I go for it to save money?? Help!!!

Re: Your honest opinion needed

  • How does it feel?  Does it look like it's a $10 veil?  Do you want it in your pictures on your wall for the rest of you life?
A veil doesn't have to be crazy expensive.  I work at a mid-high end bridal salon and you can get a veil for 50 - 150.  (single layer, no beading/lace, shoulder - finger tip.)

    If YOU like it...sure!

My lace-trimmed cathedral veil was $40 from an Amazon seller. No one knew that it didn't cost a fortune...so it's up to you.

  • If you like it, why not? I recommend looking around on etsy, amazon, ebay, and the wedding message boards. I bought an unused veil from the weddingbee classifieds. When it arrived, I looked up the brand and style number from the tag. I paid $40 plus shipping for a veil that sells for $300.

There's also places where you can buy veils online that are way less expensive than the stores. I would try there before buying a bachelorette party veil.

I am sorry but $50-$150 for a plain one tiered veil is completely ridiculous.  I made my fingertip, one tier veil (plain) for $8.  And I can guarantee you that you would never have known.

OP, I would check out Etsy or consider making your own.  The really aren't that hard especially if you just want something simple and plain.

    Maggie is a smart lady!

I just made a practice cathedral length veil for myself. The tulle was on sale $1/yard (so I paid like $7 for it), I bought lace to trim it with and bought a jeweled comb to attach it to. The whole thing was like $20. I think it looks pretty decent. Tulle is tulle for the most part.

Google around for DIY veils - there are tons of good guides out there. You don't need sewing experience to make a basic veil.

  • I got my birdcage veil from whitedovebridal.com   I ended up not wearing it, but it was incredibly pretty with pearl accents, and was $25, I think.
  • My veil was like 12 bucks from valuveil.com

That site is awesome. It was recommended to me by the ladies on TK.
  • @KnotPorscha When will this flagging crap be dealt with?  What part of my post above violates TOS?

And why was yours flagged and not mine when I basically said the same thing?

Look I understand the flagging is supposed to help TK Gods know when someone is violating the TOS but this is ridiculous.  I really would like to know why whoever flagged Linger's post flagged it.  What was it about her post that constituted flagging?

I really think many posters think the "flag" feature is more of a "dislike" button.  I am not sure if the "report" feature from the old forum version was ever abused as bad as this "flag" feature but at least there was multiple choices and also a comment box to explain why you reported it.

  • maybe you can borrow someone's veil?
  • @LingerLonger1 Your post is clearly not a TOS violation and will be removed once we get our system back up and running. @KnotJackie and I are working on a solution with our developers and in house tech team to make the reporting system better. In the mean time, I will reach out to the user that flagged you with a warning.
  • @LingerLonger1 Completely understand where you are coming from. The Nest and The Bump are both on a different platform originally, so that didn't effect the progress with changing The Knot.
