Friday Questions

Since we seem to be a super active group this morning, how about some fun, completely random questions?

1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend?

2. Going on or went on any vacations this year?  Where?  If not, where is next on the list?

3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail?

4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)?

5. Read anything good recently?

Feel free to add more questions..my brain was failing a bit as soon as I started this.  Winning.

Re: Friday Questions

  • 1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend? Hopefully hiking tomorrow, and either a bit of running or leg workout and abs.  One more week until I can finally lift again...hopefully.

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year?  Where?  If not, where is next on the list? Cape Cod, twice.

    3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail? For a small detail, probably the bubbles we had leaving from the church.  It felt like champagne popping on my skin when we walked out, and was so cool to experience.

    4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)? I always loved Charlie for a girl, but since H's first name is formally Charles, that won't be happening.  We're not planning on kids for quite a few years but we still have fun toying with names and right now we're into Claire for a girl and Brady for a boy.

    5. Read anything good recently? A couple good dog books-You Had Me at Woof was probably my favorite of them.  About to start something called Falling Together next.

    1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend?More yoga. Walking and riding my bike. Changing things up.

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year?  Where?  If not, where is next on the list?We just came back from 'vacation: phase one.' Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, North Bay and back to Labrador. Towards the end of next week we will leave for Newfoundland, drive across the island to St. John's, get the kids, go back to the west coast and get married! We will also be going to Montreal again over Christmas. FSIL has changed her DW plans to an elopement with a party in Montreal over the holidays.

    3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail?

I am looking forward to having DS give me away, and DD being a bridesmaid. She's so excited about it, and has been talking about it non-stop since we got engaged.

    4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)?Remy for a boy (French influence for FI there. One of the few names we agree on.)Paige for a girl (just me. FI thinks it's trendy.)

    5. Read anything good recently?I just read "22 Britiana Road" by a first time author. It wasn't a bad read; about a family struggling to re-establish itself after the horrors of WWII. Other than that, I read a lot of fitness magazines. I'm also reading paint charts, trying to pick a colour for our bedroom ...Edited for weird spacing. Don't think it helped :-(

  • That sounds like a good book Jenny.  I may need to check it out!

    xcaly's additions-

    6. Dream vacation if money weren't an issue?
    Africa.

    7. One thing GIS-related you want to accomplish? (Can be this year or ever)
I have no clue.  I tried a running goal, body rejected that.  I am so far away from a pullup that it seems like an unrealistic goal for now, but maybe in the next year or two.

  • 1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend?
Frisbee tournament - 4 games Saturday, 3-4 games Sunday! I'm not sure how many of those I'll actually be playing but I'll give it my best shot.

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year? Where? If not, where is next on the list?
None so far this year! We may be taking a mini-moon to Algonquin or Niagara after the wedding, and then are discussing coming down into the U.S. for an actual honeymoon (seeing California, Arizona, maybe visiting Texas) - or Hawaii, depending on budget.

    3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail?
Hmm. I'm excited for carrot cake wedding cake (my favourite)! I'm excited to wear my dress and my shoes... and really just to have everyone there to celebrate with us!

    4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)?
I like Abigail or Marian for a girl, and James and William for a boy.

    5. Read anything good recently?
I've just finished The Light Between Oceans and loved it, and just downloaded a book called Feed by Mira Grant that was highly recommended by some friends (it's also post-apocalyptic zombie book)

    6. Dream vacation if money weren't an issue?
    Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

    7. One thing GIS-related you want to accomplish? (Can be this year or ever)
Ever: an Olympic distance triathlon, and a half marathon. This year - staying healthy, and beating my time on the sprint tris I'm signed up for!

  • 1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend?
Oh of course you'd have to ask this...I don't have any formal workouts planned, but I'm hoping our house guest wants to go to the park to play disk golf. I'm also hoping I can sneak away on Sunday and get a killer workout in...but being that we'll probably have a TON of people who crash at our house Saturday night, I don't know how likely that is.

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year? Where? If not, where is next on the list?
No real vacations. We did drive to Vermont for my cousin's wedding, but I think we spent longer driving than we did actually in Vermont. Next on the list will realistically probably be to visit one of our friends, maybe in Colorado or Virginia. I don't get paid time off, so we're very very limited in what we can do (cost wise and time wise).

    3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail?
My favorite detail was probably our venue (Ford Piquette Plant - Was the first factory Model-T cars were manufactured in, now it's the Henry Ford Model-T Museum). It was so unique and everyone loved it.

     4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)?
Boy - I'm pretty set on Vincent
Girl - Lorelei or Catherine (though I also love the names I threw at Kwith)
(I have not run these by DH, but I'm pretty good at getting my way so I'm not worried :-D)

     5. Read anything good recently?
Other than online articles...no. I have an issue where I start a book and HAVE to finish it, even if I don't like it. So i'm currently trudging through a pretty tedious book right now and am not very motivated to pick it up. I think the last good book I read was "Kavalier and Clay"

    6. Dream vacation if money weren't an issue?
Complete European tour with a cruise around Italy & Greece. I've been to France, England, Ireland and Scotland, but I'd LOVE to see a lot more. I also want to make it back to Australia to see more than just Brisbane and Cairns (I was only there for a measly week). Also need to go back to New Zealand with DH at some point to show him all the awesome things I was able to see while I was living there. Ugh, you're making me miss traveling.

    7. One thing GIS-related you want to accomplish?
I want to get down to under 180 and stay there for the long haul. That is my overall lifetime goal, I don't expect to achieve it for another year or two though. In the short-term, I would love to be able to run a 5k just once. I hate running and I know it's not for me, but I really want to accomplish this.

  • Mmmm food tourism.  H and I are all about that. :)

@jaenella, have you ever been to Niagra?

  • 6. Dream Vacation: scooter/motorcycle tour through Italy and France. I've never been to Europe, want to see both of these places (well, lots more actually, but they'd do to start).

    7. GIS goal: sounds silly, but I'd love to learn to swim. I feel like I'm missing out on so much by not knowing.

@Lobsters25. It wasn't a bad read. If you can't find it, I can send you my copy. Let me know.

I have a firm "if I don't love it by page 100, it's gone" rule. Life is too short to read bad books.

@xcalygrl - I wish more of my family were making the trip for our wedding. I'm kind of bummed that we won't get to have one of my families notorious wedding bash's, but that's the problem with having a destination wedding. I was actually expecting a few more to make the trip. Oh well.

  • 1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend?
Probably hit the gym the next two days and work on abs and arms one day, and then legs and back the second day. I only have short shifts this weekend so have a lot of time to work out after I get off work. Plus I'll be walking a lot and playing with the furbaby

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year?  Where?  If not, where is next on the list?
Not going on any vacations this year. But planning to take our honeymoon in the New Year. When we've saved a bit up.

    3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail?
Oh gosh, my favourite detail was our vows. We wrote them ourselves, and each of us put so much love and emotion into them. A lot of people gave rave reviews about loving our vows to each other.
Oh and the dessert we had with dinner. That was another favourite.

    4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)?
It's funny, two months before H and I started dating officially, we had a huge two hour long discussion about baby names. At the time he turned down all my choices for boys names. But we have come to an agreement on two names. For a girl we like Alexis Barbara (my grandmother's name was Barbara and I was super close to her so want to remember her). And for a boy we like Chase Basil (Basil after H's grandfather who just passed in April).

    5. Read anything good recently?
    The Carrie Diaries lol
I loved the Sex and the City series and then the Carrie Diaries show so decided to read the books. Plus I just love Candace Bushnell's books in general.

    6. Dream vacation?
@xcalygrl Mine is also Ireland! It's somewhere H and I have always wanted to visit. Would also like to see other parts of Europe as well

    7. One thing GIS-related I'd like to accomplish?

Would love to get down to 175. I'm sitting at 225 right now at 5'9", so I need to get down to 175. In my swimming days when I was practicing 7 days a week I was at 150 lbs so I'd like to get to that point too, but I want to reach 175 first.

  • @lobsters25 - I've been to Niagara Falls a few times, mostly with school groups (the Canadian side) and I went on one winery tour in Niagara region. I don't think we'd go into the city proper but might just do a bed and breakfast, biking around the region (aka: winery tour!) kind of trip, maybe see a play in Niagara on the Lake. Have you been? Anywhere you'd recommend?
  • We did it once on the US side last year.  It was sad to see that there still isn't much there, though the Canadian side looked awesome.  We did make the drive to visit old friends over toward Seneca Lake and stuff after, though - totally a great place to do some vineyards and biking.

  • Since we seem to be a super active group this morning, how about some fun, completely random questions?

    1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend?

Body Pump launch at my gym and a couple runs. I'm ridiculously sore today, so hopefully that fades by tomorrow! I am hoping to get a run in today as well!

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year?  Where?  If not, where is next on the list?

OMG! My H surprised me with a trip to Sandals St. Lucia for our anniversary this year :) So that's in September and I'm crazy excited to go to an all-inclusive. Plus I can't wait to hike the area. WOOT! We didn't get a honeymoon so I'm excited for this.

We're still keeping an eye on cruises, but we may put it off until Jan/Feb

Orlando, FL in August for Les Mills Mega Q (huge deal for LM instructors to get continuing education credits, free swag, and meet all the production people for all the classses. STOKED)

Savannah, GA over Halloween for a wedding.

    Chattanooga for Thanksgiving

    Seattle for Christmas.

    5. Read anything good recently?

All I have been reading has been VegNews Magazine and AFAA. I have my AFAA exam this month so it's been studystudystudystudy

  • 6. Dream vacation if money weren't an issue?
A yoga retreat in Peru (Wanderlust in particular). SO. Effing. Badly.

    7. One thing GIS-related you want to accomplish?
... I would like to run a half within the next year.. Hopefully by the end of the year :/ I really don't want to admit that to people because then I have to genuinely focus but.. yeah.
I actually really want to do a tri, but I am holding out for a solid bike first, so I think working on the running game, and taking spin classes will be a good prep..
  • 1. What will be on the agenda for workouts this weekend? Triathlon tomorrow followed by the after party at H's spin instructors house. She's married to the man who owns Belhurst Castle and they sponser the novice wave, which we joined mostly for the free wine finishers gift.

    2. Going on or went on any vacations this year?  Where?  If not, where is next on the list? Our honeymoon to San Fran/Seattle. I'm trying to plan a weekend get away to Boston to see Jack Johnson for H's birthday, but I'm not sure if I can swing the cost =/

    3. What was, or will be, your favorite wedding detail? Our venue on the water was so pretty. I loved our ceremony too. It felt so romantic and so personal.

    4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)? We have names picked out already even though it'll be a year or two before we have kids. For a boy we're going with Troy David. For a girl, Eleanor.

    5. Read anything good recently? I'm almost done with the final Sookie Stackhouse novel. I need to read more.

    6. Dream vacation if money weren't an issue? Australia. No doubt.

    7. One thing GIS-related you want to accomplish? Run a half Iron Man

    4. What are your favorite baby names (boy and girl)?

  • @lovelyheather, it's alright. I was reading it on the plane flying to and from our honeymoon and didn't finish and now I can't seem to find it to finish. It's been so long since the previous book that a few things confuse me. The whole series got pretty twisted and convoluted. I'm enjoying it, but not as much as the first few.

@Loberster25, I've already pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to nix Boston. I'd muscle through the cost if we weren't planning on possibly going to the Virgin Islands in April which I completely forgot about when I started booking things in Boston. That trip is going to run us about 5K and I need to save money instead of paying off a secondary trip. Sad but true. That's what I get for working at a non-profit that pays like shit.
