To expensive postage

Just need peoples suggestions. I picked invits that fold and have a ribbon am adding a link so you can see it. But postage is about 85ish cents each i have about 85 to sent out. Thats about 73 dollars in postage. The post office told me i could get it down to .66 cents each if i can get it flatter. So to do that i have to  not tie the ribbon or go out and buy a smaller ribbon. Well buying new ribbon sorta evens out to same amount of the postage. So will it be unflattering to open the envelope and see a invit with a ribbon untied and tucked flat. Or for looks just pay the extra and have it tied. I just need suggestions because am ready to stuff them in my addressed envelops and get them out this week. I wanted them out a week ago but have been side tracked by job hunting.

I think that the ribbon really adds a lot to the invitation and (visually and literally) ties it together.  And really, you're only paying about $17 more in postage with the ribbon vs. without.  I would personally use the ribbon and pay extra for the postage. 

Plus, by the time you consider that you will also need to pay postage for RSVP envelopes and thank you cards, $17 more in postage for the invitations themselves isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.

My RSVPs are taken care of but because i was laid off on the 1st the 17 dollars is a big difference right now. I want the ribbon on there tied but that makes it to were i need to call my parents to help me with postage. But i see what your saying.

I'm sorry to hear that you were laid off.  Honestly, if $17 extra for postage is going to require you asking someone for financial assistance, it may be best to skip putting on the ribbon. In addition, I think that you need to look at your wedding as a whole and scale back wherever possible.  It seems unwise to be planning a wedding that is budgeted so tightly that you don't have $17 to spare.  Are there other areas of your wedding that you could cut costs on? Eliminating favors, reducing bar options, simplifying decor, etc.? Or are there lifestyle aspects you could cut back to save extra money? Eliminating cable, avoiding going out to eat, etc.?

We have already cut back its just that they invits need to go out soon. And right now that extra is a problem. If i wanted to wait another three weeks i could get them out no problem but they need to go out soon. My parents are taking care of 95% of the wedding expenses and the postage isnt a problem for them to help out on. But the fact that am in kansas and there is lousinia is as its hard to help me pay for stamps when they cant just take them to the post office for me. Am crossing my fingers i get the job i interviewd last week for.

My invites were similar, but we didn't get the ribbon, because it cost extra, and they looked good without it.  Without the ribbon, ours cost 86 cents each.  Since you have it, I would keep it.  The reason ours cost 86 and not 66, is because they didn't lay as flat as they could have.  Even when folded, our invites didn't stay folded, they still puffed out.  Not having the ribbon made stuffing the envelopes a PITA, and they made the whole package larger than it needed to be, hence the extra postage. 

Anyway....I think that if you have them, just use them!

I'd be more concerned with the fact that you don't have emergency savings to pay the $17 extra postage than how the invitations look.  That would worry me a whole hell of a lot more than whether an invite has a ribbon or not.  What about your FI?  Can he help?  And you say you cut back, but I would revisit that.....I'm betting there is SOMETHING you have that you can cut back to find that $17. 

Next step for the two of you is getting a financial plan and building emergency savings!  Don't forget, money is one of the biggest reasons for divorce.

Could you loop the ribbon from the left to the right and then back through the left, skipping the knot?
Could you make a tiny slit in the ribbon and thread it through itself?
If you don't mind asking your parents, they could buy the stamps and mail them to you. It should fit in a normal envelope. They could also order postage on line, but it would probably take a few weeks to arrive.
