How was your weekend?

How was yours?

Mine wasn't too bad. Friday night we went over to a friend's house for game night. It was fun we ordered food and she baked lots of desserts for us. It was fun. Saturday we working on the patio. I didn't do that much work on it FI had a friend come over to help. We went and grabbed some Mexican food for dinner. FI was up early on Sunday with his friends continuing to work on the patio. It's still not done but hopefully this weekend it will be. Sunday night we used the grill for dinner and we talked more on wedding stuff.

We finally decided on a photographer this weekend. We also began looking at save the date ideas. FI wants to mail out chocolate bars and do a willy wonka golden ticket thing. It's cute but it will get expensive pretty fast. Do you think STD's invitations have to match the color scheme and formality for the wedding? I do, FI thinks we can kind of do whatever. I'd prefer to go with plain magnet STD's...

This week is going to be a crazy one and next week. Basically I'm the only one in on my team most of the next two weeks so I will be stuck handling everything. It really sucks. I bought a nice big bottle of wine to cope at nights.

Re: How was your weekend?

  • I do prefer when stds match the overall formality of the wedding but I don't think they have to match the colors. I think there is a little leeway on these though. Also shipping chocolate bars is going to be slightly more expensive than shipping magnets. And given that stds are optional? I'd go with the magnets :)

Our weekend was pretty good. Mainly relaxed and played in the workshop. I started making a wooden chess set that might take me all year but I'm pretty excited about it.
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @peaseblossom55 sounds like a busy weekend! In regards to STDs, I've never had one where the STD matched the "theme" of the wedding unless it was a destination wedding and usually it was a beachy theme. I like the idea of chocolate bars, but in this weather, they may not hold up. If you're mailing them in fall or winter though, maybe you could find someplace that will make smaller candy bars?

This weekend was fun for me. Friday night I was supposed to go out with a friend but she cancelled. So I sulked for a little bit then stayed up late drinking wine and watching bad TV.

Saturday morning BF and I went to the jewelers to look at a setting I was interested in. I picked my top 3 choices for settings, the jeweler gave us a damn good deal on my favorite setting. He sized my finger, kept it on file and now we have to wait for my parents to get back from out west for the diamond. I can relax a little bit now. Then we did some shopping for my birthday (I'm lame I only picked out perfume, cell phone cases and new headphones). Finally we drove up to my friend's H's company party and got to eat and drink everything and watch some fireworks in the fog (laaaame).

Sunday we didn't do a damn thing except laundry and play take the dog outside for frisbee time. BF made an awesome dinner, it was so good.

I'm already thinking about this weekend, cannot wait for the week to be over with!

  • @buddysmom I can't wait for this week to be over either!!

We wouldn't mail out an STD's until the fall. FI actually wanted to hand deliver STD if they had chocolate and mail out the rest, most of our guest list is pretty local. I think the idea is cute I prefer something a bit more formal. He's also looking at cards that look like wonka bars and inside is a magnet STD that looks like a golden ticket. I like that he has these unique creative ideas and I don't want everything to have my ideas either. May be make the STD's fun and unique and do something a bit more formal for the invitation. He has Microsoft publisher so we'll have to fool arounf with that!

  • we had a pretty great weekend at the Coco casa.

Friday afternoon we went around town and ended up buying a 1940's ladder. I'm going to do THIS with it in our living room. right now it's a slate blue weathered color. I haven't decided if I'm going to paint it or not. I am also doing something like THIS over my entryway table. I found the PERFECT 8-pane window on craigslist, so we bought that too. now I'm looking for some shutters, plus one long shutter so I can do THIS in the laundry room. I'm painting the laundry room an eggshell white (called Biscuit at Sherwin-Williams, GORGEOUS color) and going to paint the long shutter in Raging Seas (teal). EEEEE!!!

I also want to get an off-the-wall-hanging rack for the laundry room, or do something like THIS.

I've decided on curtains like THIS for the bedroom. and we are going to build something like THIS over the master toilet, and use some pretty baskets to store stuff in. the bedroom and master bath will both be painted the Biscuit color too.

Friday evening we got together with our friends, M&A. we went to dinner and then came back to the house and started planning out some fun decorating stuff for my house. A is really good at helping me figure out what I want in terms of decorating; I tend to flounder and get overwhelmed. so we got some great ideas going, and picked out the colors I want to use (Biscuit, Interactive Cream for the hallway, and Raging Seas for laundry room accent).

Saturday, I went grocery shopping, started deep cleaning the house and taking all the random decor things down so I could "see" the house, and got paint samples and painted all over the walls. I scrubbed the kitchen floors and they SHINE. I'm trying to clean the grout in the tile on the floor, any tips??

@buddysmom80 - do you have any pictures of the settings you picked out? that is so exciting. we didn't get to pick out a ring since we used one that was in the family, but one day we went out and just tried on a bunch of rings for fun... and it was fun because there was no pressure since we already had one!! I tried on one that was over $100,000 (it had a canary diamond)!

@peaseblossom55 - I think I'm with @Blue & White. chocolate probably wouldn't handle well in the mail. I think lunar did something really cool with corks for her STD's. what kind of atmosphere or motif are you going for in your wedding?
  • @cocobellaf you are the Pinterest queen in that post, Pinterest is blocked for me at work, so when I get home I have to see what you're planning on doing. I have a ton of projects I haven't started but I feel like eventually when I get the time to start getting stuff together. I have no direction in regards to how I want my house decorated. It's taken me THREE WEEKS to pick out hardwood flooring.....

Anyway, to answer your question, the links below are the top three. The diamond my mom gave me is in a setting for a pendant now, but I loved her original setting and she can't find it anywhere so if she had it we probably would have re-set the diamond in the setting but alas, I had to make choices which I'm horrible about.

  • @buddysmom80 - I especially love #1 and #3. so beautiful!
  • @cocobellaf

boo work blocks your decorating links. I will have to look at them later.

We don't have a motif or anything yet. We do have our color scheme picked out. We had thought about incorporating into the reception great love stories, from novels or movies. Although Willy Wonka is not a love story...

    Anniversary

  • if you decide to go with love stories or novels, you can definitely come up with some creative ideas for STDs.

I think THESE are adorable, too. we didn't have STDs. our engagement was only 8 months and we were on a budget, so we just relied on word of mouth and then invites.
  • @buddysmom80 I like #1 the most. There was band similar on blue nile that i liked for a while. They are all really nice.

  • This weekend was so busy and stressful but overall pretty good because we got a lot done.

Friday night FI and I moved some of my furniture to his place and went and picked up his new 60" TV so by the time we were finished with that, it was pretty late and my friend's housewarming party was about a 45 minute drive so we decided to stay in.

Saturday I had my hair trial which went really well! I loved how my hair looked with and without my veil! I have picture but I will post them once I upload my pics from my camera. FI got fitted for his tux and as well as his groomsmen so I'm glad that's done with.

Sunday I had a nice surprise email from my wedding dress salon saying that my dress came in a month early so I went over there and tried it on! It looked beautiful! We need to make a couple alterations to the bodice but besides that the length was perfect! I love it!
  • @cocobellaf I will have to look at them later. Boo work blocks everything!

  • @LivLeighton - where did you get that light fixture from? I love it!
  • @peaseblossom55, could you maybe got with magnet STDs that look like the golden tickets? Meeting in the middle, perhaps?

My weekend was all right. BF and I spent the whole weekend writing a macro to run a sub-macro for a subroutine to export data from Access to Excel and automatically make a graph. We're in the process of generalizing the crap out of it. If it were in my power, I would have already put this code out of its misery, but I need to make this work so forward!

I also spent the weekend knitting on the Christmas presents. Almost got one done, had to go get more yarn but at least my mom is paying me back.

My world is fascinating, I tell you.
  • @livleighton I love the new light fixtures!

We went with a different photographer actually. It was between her photographer and another so we went with the other photographer we liked him a little bit better. I agree that the STD should give a clue to the formality and the color scheme of the wedding. Especially with what I had in mind. We'll see what the compromise is.

    @keptinstitches

he found something similar to that effect it's a card that opens up to a golden ticket & I said we could do the magnet as the golden ticket.

  • I had a good weekend - Friday I made the gifts for my BFFs bridal shower on Saturday. I did this project, from Pinterest - LINK. I did a Pyrex dish, with their last name on one side, and I drew up some mountains in Illustrator for the other side. I also did two beer mugs with "Mr." on one & "Mrs." on the other. They were a hit!

Saturday morning was the shower - it was lovely. They had it at a fabulous restaurant, and the food was DELICIOUS. They got the cake from a local cake shop (which is semi-famous, as they've been on Cupcake Wars twice) - it was a spice cake with an apple filling, and was SOOOOO good. I was in charge of the "bow bouquet," as I usually am at my friends showers, and it turned out beautiful, if I do say so myself, haha.

Saturday afternoon, BF & I went to our friends house for a birthday BBQ. We had so much fun, hanging out by the pool, drinking, & playing lawn games (BF & I have an all-time undefeated record in cornhole - we won four games on Saturday, and have played several other times this summer. We're good - although, I clearly carry the team, since I TWICE I got all four bags in the hole, in one game.) I really love hanging out with the people I've met through BF - I was joking the last time we all hung out about how the best part of dating him was getting to hang out with them, but it's really kind of true, haha!

Yesterday, we were lazy in the morning and then cleaned the apartment. Our kitchen was gross, so I really deep cleaned it and now everything sparkles. We went to an earlyish dinner to Dinosaur BBQ, where I ate entirely too much, but it was so delicious I couldn't help myself, then came home & lazed on the couch because we were too full to move. BF is a big Dexter fan, so he watched that when it came on, and I went in the bedroom & read (because I haven't seen Dexter, but I want to, so I don't want to ruin it by watching the new episodes.)

And that's it! Nothing thrilling, but an overall good weekend :)

  • @BriSox81. I love cornhole it's so much fun. FI has a set, we haven't played in our home yet, but we bring the set over to our friends' house for all bbq's. Sounds like a fun weekend. Glad the etching projects worked out. I always wanted to try that.

My weekend was a lot of fun!
Friday night my fiancé went on his bachelor party weekend so I had the house to myself.

Saturday I woke up super early for the drenched5k. It was a lot of fun but they definitely need to work on some things for next years race. Once the race was over I headed home and was lazy and just watched some scary movies until it was time to get ready for my bachelorette party. The girls and I went out in DC and had a blast. Shot ski , various free drinks and jumbo slice and my nice was complete!

Sunday was laid back. Fiancé got home around noon so we headed out to eat and then to catch World War Z. We finished the day with yard work and True Blood.

  • @Peaseblossom55 - As a guest, I really like magnet STDs. Congrats on booking a photog! Who'd you go with?

@buddysmom80 - I'm SO excited about your ring choices <3

    @LivLeighton - LOVE LOVE LOVE!

@BriSox81 - Your crafting this weekend was awesome. I love how the gifts turned out and I want to make something for myself now!

  • My weekend was really nice!

On Saturday, H and I got up and cleaned the apartment because we were having company later. H's friend and his wife and my BFF came over for snacks and then we headed to the bar. A few of my other friends met us there and I had way too many pre-birthday drinks.

Yesterday, I moved from my bed to the couch at some point and then basically stayed there for the rest of the day except when I got up to get more food from the kitchen. I ended my weekend with Big Brother and Dexter.

I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon to get an IUD. I'm a little nervous about it. Send good vibes to my cervix, please!

  • Vibes to your cervix, @swazzle, and there is no way that will ever not sound wrong ...
  • @swazzle sending vibes to your cervix

I felt bad not going with Stephanie, we were between two really good photographers we spend weeks going back and forth debating. We finally decided to go with Jason Rhee.

As an extra side note to anyone for the first time I made my own guacamole. It was so good. I used a recipe that @swazzle gave me.

  • @peaseblossom55 I would fail at incorporating great love stories into my wedding, but my DJ has this "love story" package (which we're not doing) where he like tells the story of your love story throughout the reception, which might work. It doesn't work for us - I'm dating my friend's ex. Heck, I'm MARRYING my friend's ex. lol, she's invited - don't worry :)

@buddysmom80 I love that you essentially had the same weekend as me (mostly chilling, but still a few fun things in there as well.) so exciting to pick out ring settings!

@southernpeach89 I apparently missed this, but when are you planning to move in with your fiance? Before the wedding? Or does he get your furniture for like 4 months beforehand? :)

  • @Peaseblossom55 - He comes very highly recommended on the NNJ, nice choice! I think I contacted him and he wasn't available on my date. Glad you liked my guac!

  • @Blue- I'm moving my things over to his place prior to the wedding but I will be living at home with the parents for a couple months until November since my lease ends in August. So he will have my furniture that we need together but anything else I'm either donating to Goodwill or try to sell on Craigslist.

He just got his new place in March so the furniture that he had was pretty old and also was mine so we are getting new furniture or using the things that we have now that are still in good condition. So we have random things here and there in the apartment but we are still needing to buy some new things also. We are looking for a new TV stand and coffee table right now. Down the road we want to replace our kitchen table and get a sleigh bed frame.
  • @blue&white- we'll see if we continue with that idea or not. We're still toying around with things.

@swazzle- I'm excited for him. We going to try to do our engagement shots in September before it gets cold. We going to try to do them in Central Park. I loved the guac!

  • My weekend was pretty good. Friday was movie night- we watched Its a good day to die hard. It was pretty good, except that whenever they spoke in Russian, there were no subtitles so you didn't know wtf they were saying.

Saturday was spent adventuring with my friend and get three kids. We started off at mangomania and got drenched due to downpours of rain. Then we drove around the island and had an all around good time.

Sunday I dropped my roommate off at work, so since I was up early I cleaned the kitchen. Then it was off to R's for movies. We watched the John Deere classic for a while then took his son to the football field to practice running routes and patterns. Then it was relaxing, sexy times and more golf.

I am also going to enroll back in school I think. It's a lot to take in- but I really want to finish my degree
