Santa Barbara

What do people think about Santa Barbara for a 5 night Honeymoon in March for a post Las Vegas Wedding?

Re: Santa Barbara

  • When we honeymooned in September 2011, we took 14 days to drive down the coast of California. Santa Barbara was one of our stops for one night. To be honest, there really isn't enough to do there for 5 days. It's a lovely town, but not much there.

If you want a California honeymoon I'd recommend San Diego/Coronado Bay area, Malibu/LA or Monterey/Carmel (south of San Fran) for 5 day stay in one place. Each has beach areas, plus things to do. Or, San Francisco for 5 days, but the beach may not be a highlight, but there is more to do.

LA/Malibu: You can stay right on the beach at the Casa Malibu Inn. Hollywood area, Universal Studios or Disneyworld. San Diego/Coronado Bay: Old San Diego, Balboa Park, Coronado Bay is a small town with Silver Strand beach, one of the best in the world. Monterey/Carmel: the Monterey Aquarium, charming Carmel by the Sea, Mission Ranch is a fabulous place to stay for one-two nights (it's pricey). San Francisco: great restaurants, the Golden Gate bridge, take a tour of Alcatraz, Chinatown.

  • I went to school in Santa Barbara and I think it depends on what you are looking for. You could do a beach day, horseback riding, wine tasting, maybe see a show at the Santa Barbara Bowl or one of the theaters downtown. I am not sure where you are considering staying but there are a few very nice options that have great Spas as well.

Renting a car and driving the coast is not a bad idea either. Like I said, I am not sure what types of things you are looking to do on your honeymoon.
