Finger lakes

Ok, not a honeymoon question, but still a travel one.  DH and I are headed to the Finger Lakes for two days to do a little sightseeing and wine tasting.  Does anyone have any reasonable accomodation recommendations?  I would prefer to be closer to the Seneca wine trail.

Any other tips on must sees are welcome too.

Thanks!!

Re: Finger lakes

  • I went to college in Ithaca, it is absolutely stunning this time of year. I would pick a B&B close to the wine trails-if you are booking short notice over the phone, you can usually negotiate a discount. I've stayed at Gothic Eves before and had a great stay. If you are in the Ithaca area, Buttermilk Falls is fantastic and you can swim in the falls. There's actually a bunch of water falls you can swim in around that area.

In downtown Ithaca, Moosewood is a legendary restaurant.

Have fun and buy lots of wine! I hate how few Fingerlakes wines are available in NYC!

I have never stayed there but my good friend says it beautiful!  There are also many B&Bs and cabins in the area.  I do not have a specific one to recommend but definitely check out trip advisor for reviews.

If you stay on Seneca lake, I would highly recommend going to Watkins Gorge.  What an amazing place!  Oh yes, one more thing....if you like sweet wine you HAVE to go to 2 places for (IMO) the best there is, on the lake. 1. Fulkersons - Red Zeppelin.  2. Rasta Ranch - Purple Haze.  I believe Fulkerson's does a cheese/chocolate pairing with their tastings, Yummm!

  • I got married at Ventosa Vineyards in Geneva, and absolutely love Seneca Lake.  There are tons of B&B around the lake, but if you're looking for a hotel, I recommend Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel or Geneva Ramada Inn.  The Watkins Glen gorge is great to walk though, and Geneva has a really nice park on the lakefront too.  Tons of great wineries in between each town!

Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel is gorgeous!!  The pictures on their website are unreal.  I wish it was in my current price range!
  • I actually attended a wedding and stayed here, at the Aurora Inn: http://innsofaurora.com/accommodations/

    It was unbelievably gorgeous.
