How to get a videographer on a budget?!

I am having a budget wedding with mostly DIY stuff. Video is important to me because I want to have those memories. I know about wedit.com. But honestly $500 is too much and not in my budget. Can anyone suggest an expensive but good way to get a videographer? I have no ideas!

I'm having the same problem!  We budgeted about $200 for this, and it's just not working out!  A friend of mine is trying to get a business going for it - she said her pricing is $200 per hour!  Ohhh, we just can't afford that!

Our photographer is a teacher at my old high school, and I asked if she knew any students who might be interested.  She found one - $600 for the ceremony and reception.  Eek!

I really don't know what to do either.  We did not plan for it to be this expensive, but I would really like some sort of video.  I don't have enough family to ask to do this, we have mainly immediate family and close friends invited.  I am lost!

I am lost too @maijde Because I don't want to have poor quality video. But I cant spend a fortune either...grrr
  • My friends younger sister is studying film at uni and is doing ours for us for way less than a professional. It's experience and a bit of extra cash for her, so she jumped at it. Maybe call your local college and ask if there is anyone who would be able to do it for the amount that you want to pay.

That sounds like a great idea bubbles! I think that's what I was going to do for ceremony music too. Hoping they will be good though lol.
  • The way we figured it is we wouldn't be having it if she didn't do it. So even if it's an average video it is still something we weren't going to have anyway.

  • Also looking at this issue! i really want video but can't find an affordable videographer. What do you think of $300? Found this free wedding app called Switchcam. Been asking around.. but if you use Switchcam, basically your guests are your wedding camera crew. and then Switchcam takes all the guests' footage and creates a professionally edited wedding video for $300. What do you guys think?? Might be fun to have the guests be part of it all?
  • Hi Brides/Grooms,
My name is Joe Bigornia and I am one of the owners at Big7 Media. I can answer some of you questions as I have noticed that there are no Professionals on this thread really.
So you are on a budget huh? We always try to lower our prices or even give payment plans to our Clients. So the first step is to ask a Videography/Photography company if they can lower their prices or even take payments. Another way to go about this is to look for a film student, Now the only problem is, A lot of the times, The Venue might ask for insurance for the Videographers/Photographers, now you might have a problem but you can also help them search online for insurance as well, it is not hard to get. Check on Craigslist as well, seek out some of the amateurs and ask for their work as well. You will be taking a chance though because for example: Even when someone hires us for 1 Videographer, I always have 2 cameras running druing the Ceremony because you never know what happens, The battery can maybe die for no reason, the card might have an issue recording or someone could walk in front of me during the final kiss, so I am always prepared. We usually run 3 Cameras for the Ceremony since we tend to get people buying that package all the time, this covers the Bride, The Groom and also the wide center.
If you find someone $500 and under it is really good but like I said just be aware of what you might be getting. Another thing you can do is hire just for the RAW footage and do the editing on your own. A simple edit is not so hard to do, Most computers nowadays have Windows Movie Maker or you can find a simple editing software at your local Best Buy or Fry's Electronics. Every tutorial you can learn on youtube. Very time consuming because you have to go through each clip but the good news is...You get to pick it......not the editor.
Well, Good Luck to all of you and I hope you find what you are looking for.

@lianneee, That is an awesome app, We had 2 of our weddings that we did do that and it also helped us out in producing our videos.
