Getting in Shape

Any GISers Around? NGISR, but about to cry.

So it's thunderstorming here.  And I here yelling across the street, and see a late 20s/early to mid 30s guy literally screaming at his golden retriever.  He then picks up the golden roughly and tosses the dog in the back of his open-air pickup.  I ran downstairs to tell him I was going to report him, and he ignores me, keeps yelling at the dog, and drives off.
The dog is now moving in the back of that cab, not physically attached to the vehicle (harnesses of some sort are required in our state in these cases), in the pouring rain and thunder/lightening.  I am so, so, so scared the owner is going to come back without the dog.  H is built, but this guy is jacked, so we can't even safely approach him on the return without calling the cops.  I'm writing in to the NJSPCA now, but waiting to see if he even comes back with the dog first.  If there's no dogs, I am going to call the cops asap and make him tell us where it is, and then take that dog.

I'm in tears and shaking and so upset for that poor dog.  I want to steal him/her from them.  And now the storm is getting heavier.

  • OMG, I am so upset just reading this so I can only imagine how you must be feeling after witnessing that. I think you are doing the right things. Don't approach him alone if you are not comfortable and call the police as well as sending your letter to the NJSPCA. Please let us know when he gets back. I have a bad feeling about why he put that dog in the truck. I'm afraid he'll just lie to the police and tell them he brought it to a shelter. I'm sorry you're going through this but you're doing the right thing for that poor dog. Sending ((hugs)) your way.
  • I have to wait for this guy to get back, first.  I am so afraid he won't come back tonight at all, so I won't know until I do or don't see them around the neighborhood sometime later this week.  I really hope he comes back soon, for the sake of this dog and for the sake of me getting some sleep.  I filled with the ASPCA, but if he returns sans dog I will call the cops.  He must have some temperament because his wife/gf was not saying boo.

  • They came back, no dog, ran upstairs, came back down, got in their sedan, and left.  I have zero clue what to do.  For all I know they dropped the dog at doggy daycare and are headed on vacation.

Do I wait to see if I see them and the dog later this week?  I feel like if I called them in, the police would tell me to do that and call them back if they re-appear without the dog.  Clearly, if they took the sedan, they aren't planning on bringing the dog back on this next trip.
The dog looked in otherwise healthy condition, so maybe he just lost his temper?  Either way, he'll be feeling my wrath, even if it's just an evil glare.

Next update, sorry.  They came back in car, he told her not to come back and hit her car with his umbrella (not too hard, but still intentionally hit it) twice before she drove off.  He commented she was trying to run her over (not even close, she clearly was just leaving.)

Said a prayer, and hope that she is going to go get the dog.  What a jerk.

I will give it to the the state SPCA, they already emailed me back asking if we could get exact apartment and whatnot.  I think I know where my future donation money is going.

  • That sounds horrible! I hope that dog is okay, the gf is moving on (hopefully coming to her senses), and that the storm passes...

You're a good person, @Lobsters25. Many people would pretend not to notice.

  • Omg lobsters... People are crazy.. I hope that dog is ok.
  • Oh lobsters! You're a good person for calling them into the SPCA. I'm so upset just reading this, I'd be in angry wrath tears if I had seen that. I'm glad the girlfriend is hopefully done with him too. If you call the cops now you can call on the grounds of the dog being thrown into the truck and sans harness and domestic arguing. The two together might help strengthen your case for the dog.

  • Thanks guys.  Part of me is hanging on the fence because maybe this is just one of his 'worst night of my life nights,' since the dog seems good otherwise, and am not going to call the cops right away.  We are about to go patrol the nearby fields while it's still somewhat light out, though, and see if we can find it.

GF is still MIA, so I'm going to keep an eye out for if she comes back sans dog, or if she and dog stay gone.  If they both stay gone, we're SOL and we can all just pray for the best.

Given I don't have the exact apt num there's nothing I can, do but I do know his car and we're going to write down his plate number when we take Smushie for her final walk.  If she comes back sans dog, I will have to try to find out apartment number tomorrow, and call leasing community (who has all of our license numbers on file) and see that they give the apt number that belongs to the car to the cops.

Nevertheless, Smush is getting spoiled tonight and will get to stay in the human bed.  I just want to snuggle that golden so bad, wherever he/she might be right now.

So much love to all of you for chiming in tonight, I needed my gis-ers! :)

  • She's back and the dog is back.  He's still being a dbag, but the dog looks okay, and he walked him upstairs nicely.

    Thank God.

  • I'm glad you kept the updates coming Lobsters! After reading the first post alone I was upset.  I'm glad to hear the dog is back and seemed ok.  My thought too was that it was dumped somewhere :(   I'd watch out for that guy, the story seems to say to me that it's not the first or the last time a day like that has happened in his life, just a feeling I get.
