"immitation" wedding dresses

After looking at thousands of designer gowns online, I have come across sites that appear to "cusom make" the designer gowns for a fraction of the price - mostly from China.  Personally, I don't care what tag is on the inside of my gown so long as it looks how I want it to look.  Based on the sites and just the mere fact that it seems too good to be true, I'm hesitant to try it.  Has anyone had one of these "immitation" designer gowns made through these websites?  What has your experience been?

  • It's not a good idea at all. There is a sticky post on the Attire board that explains this all very well.

  • Honestly, I think you would be better off finding someone on Etsy that can custom make a dress.  I've seen several that can do it for a reasonable price.  I know those websites advertise at a really low price, but I haven't heard good things about them either.  They showed some on TV (Good Morning America or something similar) where girls received them with pins still in the hems and with beading that wasn't even close to the original.  Not to mention the fabric is often cheap.

Try Bridal Bliss on Etsy to start.  Her work is excellent.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/bridalblissdesigns?ref=seller_info
  • My friend did this with her wedding shoes (Jimmy choo knockoffs from China).  They were 2 sizes too small and smelled like paint.  For her to send back and return will cost her about as much as her refund, so she's basically just out the money.

    I wouldnt do it.
