Advice on drinks

W are having a lunch/dinner at 3:00 at Hussong's in MB after the ceremony and then at 6 we are having the DDB pick us up from MB. We are paying for everyone's meal, but trying to figure out drinks. Since we are going to have the DDB fully stocked with drinks, would it be ok to have everyone pay for their own drinks during dinner? I was originally thinking of offering drinks or a drink, but after looking at prices, I thought we could use the money we save not buying drinks at dinner and using it for everyone elsewhere in our budget. I also thought of maybe just buying a bunch of pitchers of beer and for those who want something else to drink, could purchase that.  Thoughts?

Re: Advice on drinks

  • I think guests paying for liquor at dinner is fine but are you able to provide soft drinks at least?

  • Yes, tea, coffee and soda are all included with the meal that we are providing.

I like the idea of pitchers, could you get a cocktail one too, your guests might be different but I'm just thinking of my guests; the males would drink the beer but none of the females would. Or even pitchers of beer and a few bottles of wine on the table.
  • my 2 cents - is you should pay for their drinks. I can't imagine people are going to drink that much during a sit down meal? I think with people travelling for a wedding having their food as well as a drink or two at dinner is money well spent and appreciated.

Though the pitchers is a good idea to get them the drinks as well as help control the costs too.

  • I had this same issue my thought is I would try to buy a few bottles of wine and play by ear. Im all for taking care of a drink or two but I know my family friends can really throw them back. To give u an idea I got props for my bar tending ability before I could vote. That's my two cents
  • I'd do pitchers of beer, margs, and sangria.  I think it's a nice thing to do for people who travel that far to attend.
  • Margarita pitchers FTW!

  • Thanks everyone. We decided to go with pitchers of beer (the vast majority of people going, even the women are beer drinkers), and some bottles of wine as well for those who don't do beer.
  • Hi I am also having my dinner reception at Hussong's .. Can you tell me how much the pitchers are?/

  • Pitchers of beer are $24. Pitchers of margaritas or sangria are $46. They don't normally offer bottles of wine, but I asked and they were able to do that as well for $24 a bottle.
  • Great thank you!!
