Birdcage veil out of face for reception.

Hi ladies! I am wearing Justin Alexander 8641 dress and due to the beautiful lace back of the dress, I want to wear a birdcage veil as to not cover up the back (plus it adds to the vintage look that I love about my dress).  My only concern is how do I wear it out of my face during the reception? I am going to have a floral embellishment on the hairclip (I am making the veil myself!) and I dont want to flap the veil over  and cover the flower.  Then I was thinking make the floral headpiece separate and just have my hair stylist put it on over the comb/netting somehow so I can take the veil off and keep the flower on?

Please share your birdcage veil photos during reception if you had it out of your face in a clever way without covering up any embellishments!

Re: Birdcage veil out of face for reception.

  • My friend was looking at a birdcage veil for her wedding.  When she was trying it on we were talking how she could wear it the one way so that the veil was over her face for the ceremony and then take it out and turn it around so that the veil was covering the top and back of her head.  But I think this veil was on a thin headband so turning it around would have been pretty simple rather then if it were on a comb.

  • I bought a birdcage with a separate fascinator, so I can take the veil off for the reception and leave the flowers/feathers. They are two separate pieces, but it's easy to make them look like one for the ceremony.  I won't have pics for a few weeks, but most places that sell birdcage veils sell fascinators, so, even if you're making your own, you can look at sites for ideas.

  • I wore a birdcage veil angled over my face for the ceremony and then took it off and basically stuck it in my hair on the back of the crown of my head (if that makes sense).  I had my MOH carefully pull all the bobby pins out to remove it after the ceremony, and then I just stuck it in back and had her use two crossed bobby pins to secure it.  So it became more of a little blusher on the back of my head.

Notes:  I have curly hair and wore my hair up in the back with some curls coming down along the side of my head, so I had an updo to sort of stick the comb into.  I guess this wouldn't work if you wore your hair completely down or if you had an updo really high on your head (it would get in the way of the veil).  If you have your hair partially or completely pinned at the back of your head, though, then you could just slip the comb in right over the updo.

    Hope this helps!
  • I plan on just pinning mine up to the side, as the comb is just above my ear and also don't want to cover up the embellishment.  We did a test run and just kinda...folded it up a few times, pulled the edge flat over the top of my head and bobby pinned it down.  It worked well and still looked fabulous.
