Milwaukee Recommendations?

We have booked the venue for Milwaukee next summer.  We don't have anything else in place however.  Anyone have recommendations on catering, photographer, flowers, dj?  Any bad or good experiences would be appreciated:)

Re: Milwaukee Recommendations?

  • I'm using bunzels for catering. There food is awesome and they are very budget friendly. Also Dan is very helpful and easy to work with. (I use them for work a ton) I'm working on narrowing down photographers and planning to use an ipod so I can't help you there. I also have the same question about flowers... No clue who to use.
  • We are using Zili's for Catering.  We've used them for many other events in the past and couldn't be happier with the level of service we've received so far.

Do not use George Street Photo.  Service was awful and they tried to change our contract after we signed.  We have gone off with Jadon Good.  Haven't done any shooting with him yet but I love his portfolio.

Have you booked a hotel for your guests yet?  If you haven't and need to I would look at that sooner than later.  Hotels tend to fill very quickly in Milwaukee during Festival Season.
  • We are using Jess Fleur Fun for flowers.  They have been awesome to work with and will work with any budget.  I liked that they showed us samples and let us pick the exact flowers and colors we wanted.  Other florists we met with just asked the type and color...seeing was way better.

As far as photographer I can't say enough good things about Daisy Fields Photography.  She did our engagement pics and she is amazing.  Can't wait to see what she can do on our wedding day.

For DJ, we are using Midwest Sound.  So far they have been easy to work with!

I hope this helps a little...

  • Thank you all!  Yes, I have read some bad reviews from George Street Photo, so they are not even in the running:)  My wedding is still about 11 months away and most hotels wont do blocks until 9 months before, so I have that date in my calander:)

Nope get hotel block in sooner.  From the hotel industry we can almost always open a block from a year out (I've done 2.5 years out before).  Ours is 10 months away and we set our block back in March.  At that time there were already 4 major hotels sold out (convention in town).  They will hold the rooms through sales earlier and then actually put the block in the system at a year.
  • Check out the Married in Milwaukee blog/website. It's the most comprehensive site I've seen.

Of course, everything depends on your budget. Do you mind sharing so we can give more specific suggestions?

  • We are trying to keep it to 20k for 110-130 people (not including dress, tux, or probably the invites).
  • Our photographer is LotusFly photography out of Milwaukee.  Shawna is great. Our engagement pictures are awesome. She did our friends wedding and they are very happy with their wedding photos.

Our florist is Mayflowers out of Brookfield.  She is very reasonable.

If you are looking for someone to do your makeup who comes to location...I just had my trial today with Skincare by Sara in Brookfield.  I am very happy with how the trial went.

We are using a DJ that several of our friends used in the past few years.  Midwest Sound.  They have really good deals throughout the year.

  • Kenosha Sounds was our DJ. They were amazing! They were really reasonable, really professional, and came as a recommendation.

George Street did our engagement pics first and they were terrible. Just the worst. Poor communication, everything. Then we fired them and went with Light Source Photography. Cathleen is the owner and was our photographer. She was amazing. She was so much fun that even my husband who hates having his photo taken had a great time. I've only seen my sneak peek (100 shots so far), but they are AMAZING! I love them. Check her out and see if she has your date open. Not sure if they have another photographer incase she's booked. I think she photos every wedding.

We made our own bouquets, but used sendicks - awesome!
