The High Point in Malvern, PA

Hello!  So I am newly engaged and currently looking for a barn set venue for our wedding. My fiance and I came across the High Point and was wondering if anyone knew what the rental fees and caterers restrictions are?  We kind of want to be able to hire our on caterer, but are flexible if we really like the venue.  We really liked the idea of a church being right there, has anyone ever had the ceremony and reception there? Also, I did see a few posts stating they were able to get in the day before to set up, which is very exciting because I cannot find any that allow this!

Also, does any one have any experience/advice about any other rustic type venues that allow outside caterers as well as set up the day before?   We are having about 150 guests, and we were planning on having the wedding next August, so it has to be air conditioned!

Re: The High Point in Malvern, PA

  • I don't have real info on the High Point, but I remember contacting them early on and they were one of the more reasonable venues, if I remember correctly. Have you considered The Gables at Chadds Ford? Honestly, it's gorgeous, the price is well below what most Philly venues are, and they are pretty flexible. There's even ceremony space if you need it. They were our top choice for the Philly area, but we decided to get married closer to where we're currently living (Harrisburg).

I'll throw out a few random places to consider: The Stone Barn, not rustic but Town House in Media. If you're willing to travel, Riverdale Manor and Rockford Plantation, both in Lancaster, and Barn at Flying Hills in Reading.

  • Thank you so much!  I did look at the gables way back before he even proposed lol.  But I'll look again because I completely forget what it looks like. Haven't heard of any of the others except the stone barn, which I emailed and haven't heard back yet. I will definitely look at all the others as well!  Thank you again!
  • We're getting married at Tyler Arboretum in Media.  They do work exclusively with Jeffrey Miller Catering so I am not sure if that's the company you had in mind but if not I recommend looking into them. We have had a great experience with them so far (just had our tasting for our menu a couple weeks ago and I have been dreaming of their crab cakes and pasta ever since haha).

The Arboretum sounds like its right up your alley.  Its an old barn that has a tent attached to the back. The barn has AC & heat (not that you'll need it in August!) and they have a few choices you use for your ceremony if you choose to do it at the same location.  They will let you drop things off up to 3 days in advance (we went a little crazy with the DIY stuff so we will be taking advantage of early drop offs)

My biggest piece of advice overall is if you're planning an outdoor wedding make sure you like the back-up space. I fell in love with a couple venues but in the end if it rained i would have been really unhappy with the indoor location.

Congrats on your engagement and happy hunting!!
  • Cynrose, your welcome & good luck! I hope one of them ends up being your perfect venue :) I had the Gables in the back of my mind before the proposal, too lol
