NER- Appropriate for F/D dance?

I know this is not etiquette related, but I am not sure if this is appropriate. I am very close with my dad and I found a song that described how I see him to a T. I feel slightly odd picking a song about how he views me, which seems to be popular. Am I even supposed to be the one picking the song? Lol Here are the lyrics. I just want to make sure I am not going to be side eyed or look ridiculous if I am approaching this the wrong way.

He's a twenty year straight get to work on time
He's a love one woman for all his life
He's a shirt off his back give you his last dime
He's strong

He's a need to move something you can use my truck
He's an overtime worker when the bills pile up
Everybody knows he aint just tough
He's strong

Strong

He'll pick you up and won't let you down
Rock solid inside out
Somebody you can trust
Steady as the sun
Ain't nothing gonna knock him off the road he's rollin on
He's strong

It aint what he can carry what he can lift
It's a dirt road lesson talkin to his kids
Bout how to hold your ground and how to live
Strong

He's strong

He'll pick you up and won't let you down
Rock solid inside out
Somebody you can trust
Steady as the sun
Ain't nothing gonna knock him off the road he's rollin on
He's strong

Strong
Like the river rollin
Strong
Gonna keep on going
Strong
When the road runs out
They gonna keep on talkin about

How he was strong
Strong

He'll pick you up and won't let you down
Rock solid inside out
Somebody you can trust
Steady as the sun
Ain't nothing gonna knock him off the road he's rollin on
He's strong

Everybody knows he ain't just tough
He's strong

  • That sounds great to me!
  • First of all, you can pick whatever song you want! And if your dad is anything like my dad, he'll just say, 'Pick whatever you want.' :)

I like those lyrics, and if they describe how you feel about your father, then go for it! It's whatever you and he are comfortable with that matters.

    If I were a guest, I wouldn't side-eye this at all.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Thank you ladies :) I  just wasn't sure if I am supposed to discuss the song choice with him, or pick it and kind of surprise him with the song the day of the wedding. And he definitely is the type that would tell me to pick whatever I want, but I know he'll like the song (he loves country and that's what this is) I appreciate the feedback!
  • I think it's a great song, but it wouldn't hurt to run it by him just to make sure. My dad and I batted around a few ideas before settling on one of his choices.
  • sounds like a good pick to me, but I would discuss it with your dad in case he does have some ideas.  My dad was all about the music and wanted to pick our song so I gave him the power.  He loved that he got to pick it and kept it a surprise for me--it was one of my favorite parts of the wedding.

  • It sounds great, but definitely run it by your dad and make sure he didn't already have one in mind. My dad actually picked ours out. He sent me an e-mail of a youtube video and said he wanted it. Of course, I was thinking about the same song as he plus a few more. So in the end, by him picking it, we figured out a song that we both love and fits. We're doing Heartland- I loved her first. I have nooo idea how I'm not going to cry during this song. gah!

:'} Me too! Every time I have looked up songs, I start blubbering like an idiot. I am going to need a whole pack of tissues for the dance itself if I can't even keep it together just picking out the damn song.
  • Sooo glad I'm not the only one who starts to cry. Thank God for waterproof makeup!
  • @Brittanyh04rn Hahahaha! Got that right!
