Wedding planner - Necessity or not?

Hi all,

I'm planning a destination wedding in South Florida (i'm from NY) but am going back and forth as to whether we need a wedding planner. We anticipate having 50 or less guests but didn't know if a wedding planner is a necessary expense?

Thanks!

Re: Wedding planner - Necessity or not?

  • Congratulations! I personally got married in the Dominican so a planner came with my package. I am not sure what I would have done without her. But that os a personal preference!

  • Thanks for your input!! We are booking at a resort and they will do most of the day-of running around so I wasn't sure if we really needed one or not!

We have a day-of coordinator included in our package, and so far that's been sufficient. If you're still undecided I'd ask your contact at the venue if they can make vendor recommendations, which I imagine would be the major benefit to having a local planner. Mine was a doll!

    Good luck! :)

  • I would definitely recommend it. I got married in Puerto Rico and the planner's network made it so much easier to choose other vendors.

  • I am getting married at an  inclusive resort so all of that is included in the pricing for me. I have a pre-travel planner, and I will have a coordinator and personal wedding planner when I arrive. I feel as though they make the whole experience so much less stressful. I am starting to think that if I planned a wedding at home that I would be lost without some form of wedding planner.

  • We are getting married in Santa Fe, New Mexico (not as exotic, but for us a destination wedding - everyone coming will be traveling).  Having a wedding planner is a life saver for us.  She has a network of vendors, special local ideas we would not have thought of, ways to save money that we weren't aware of, etc...

Now, we are not getting married at a resort.  In fact, we needed her help finding a venue.  So, that makes things different.  Personally, I would still price out a wedding planner.  It's so much more difficult doing things remotely and it is nice to have someone on the ground when you can't be there.

  • It's a luxury, not a necessity. I'm to be married in a small town in Italy, so I initially organised a wedding planner who lives in the same town, thinking it would make everything a breeze. But she really did't get the modern approach I was going for (pinterest perfect, casual dinner party, etc). So it was more hassle in the end and I had to get rid of her.

I'm now flying in a wedding stylist from the US who also coordinates. She has made the whole process so much fun - and so easy - I imagine she will have the day on lockdown, when the time comes. Who wants fuss on the day? No thanks!
