Shower hostess thank yous

I am writing thank you notes and getting small gifts for the hostesses (8 of them) of my upcoming bridal shower. Are these typically given that day at the end of the shower, or at a later date?

I mailed mine to my MOH after the shower...actually, it was waiting for her at her house as I mailed it to her the day before she flew in for my shower.  I also mailed my mom her thank you card with two gift cards.  I think you can do it at the shower as long as it's done privately...or immediately following. I wouldn't wait more than a few days though.
