MS2 Planning wedding for after boards- advice?

Hi guys! My fiancé and I recently got engaged and are planning our wedding for after I take the boards at the end of the year (June 20) the weekend before we start 3rd year orientation. Is anyone planning (has planned) a wedding with this kind of timing? I know it seems absolutely insane but my grandmother is 90 and his dad is 80 and we really want to get married while the people we love are still with us. Thoughts? Advice?

Re: MS2 Planning wedding for after boards- advice?

  • Congrats on your engagement! I don't have experience with this but I think if you get lots of planning done early and don't save bunch of little things for the last minute you'll be fine - maybe a little stressed out at times but I'm sure it's do-able!

  • MS2 here. I am planning my wedding for December break of this year. We take the boards in May, so my heavy duty studying will be staring in January, but its a similar situation to a certain extent. To be honest, my sister and my mom have had to take on a lot of the responsibility. I am also really grateful that my school is pass/fail, so that if I get a few points lower on a test I dont have to stress about it. My advice (if your like me, which I assume as a MS you are), is to not be as OCD about details as you might normally be. At the end of the day, your going to be getting married and that will be a beautiful amazing thing, but you just dont have the time or energy to stress about the color of the tablecloths or things like that. Also dont let the other people involved in planning, like in-laws or bridesmaids stress you out!
  • I'm an MS3. I didn't get married right after the boards but I can try to give some advice. I would suggest trying to get all your planning out of the way by winter break. And then once you're done planning start studying for the boards. You're going to be SO distracted by wedding things/excitement you're not going to want to study closer to the wedding so make sure you start early to give yourself a buffer/room for distraction.
  • Hi there, my fiance and I are MS3s this year and we had a lot of classmates get married right before or after boards. The others offered some great advice about getting a lot of the planning done by Christmas so that you can really focus on boards studying. How long do you plan to study for boards after you finish class if at all? You might want a week after you finish boards to take care of some last minute wedding details. If you have the option, don't be afraid to ask family and friends for help with the wedding while you study for boards because you'll want to pass/do well the first time around.
