When to deposit check

We received an RSVP decline from a family member along with a check made out to "Mr. and Mrs. FI's first name, last name."  Our wedding is about a month away, so I'm confused as to whether we are supposed to cash the check now and send a thank you card or wait until after the wedding.  I normally hate when people hang onto checks that I've written them, but the fact that it's made out to Mr. and Mrs. has me a little confused.

Re: When to deposit check

  • Deposit the check right away, and write a thank you card right away. But don't use the cash until after your wedding.
  • Try to do it as soon as you can. Since you're not married yet, it might not be possible until after you change your name (if you're going to). But check with your bank.
  • Yeah you might not be able to put it in your account right now if that's not your name. Probably best to deposit it into FI's account and send the thank you note.

  • Deposit the check right away, probably into FI's account, and write the thank-you note. Don't spend the money until after the wedding.
  • Deposit it. I can't stand when something doesn't clear within a week.
  • There is a large probability that you won't be able to deposit it until after the wedding. The went to deposit the checks into my Hs account after the wedding, and I had to sign a check waiver for them to do it. To sign the waiver, I had to show ID, which was my maiden name drivers license and our marriage certificate (this was just a couple of days after the wedding). Without showing any proof that you are mrs. Whoever, idk that they will do this for you.
  • We actually didn't have any problems depositing checks.  They were all addressed to mr. and mrs., and since my name is legally changed yet, I just had my husband sign all of them and then I deposited them into our account.  If you don't have a joint account yet, just have him deposit it into his account.  But I would second depositing it right away.  We had one check from our wedding bounce (most likely because we deposited them all when we got back from the honeymoon, 2 1/2 weeks post wedding, and I am sure the time lag had a lot to do with it)

  • I used to work at a bank. We'd just have people sign the check as it was written (Mrs. Soandso) and then sign their legal name under it. You'll probably have an easier time if you try to deposit instead of cash it.
  • First find out from your bank how to endorse it so that they'll deposit it. Then deposit it ASAP.
