Happy Friday to whoever is still around these parts. I can't get into the TH at work so it looks like you're all stuck with me :)

What's up for the weekend?

First, I'm super excited because I haven't gotten new shoes in such a long time and I just bought new flats, clogs, and boots. The boots were on sale for $42 which is pretty damn good IMO. Woo hoo for new shoes!

It's raining here. After work, I'm going to make garlic cauliflower soup and lounge all night with H. We have 2 episodes left in season 2 of the Sopranos and if any of you are fans of the show, you know these last 2 episodes are INTENSE. Also, my Eagles play tonight so that'll be happening at 7:30!

Tomorrow, we're going to a BBQ at my aunt's house and then to see Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson. I've been dying to see Kelly for YEARS and I may or may not charge the stage just to touch Adam.

Sunday, I have no plans. Probably cleaning, grocery shopping, and getting my meals together for the week.

Edited: Because my pics weren't showing up.

I didn't know you were still around! Hey, good to see you! Awesome shoes - I really like the boots.

BF and I are going to my parents' place tomorrow. Little bro and his GF will be there; I'm not looking forward to that, she and I are not on good terms right now and for once I'm actually in the right (eta: debatable, but no way am I backing down). Think I can slip vodka past everyone if I say it's water? Anyway, we'll be seeing my dad's aunt and cousin for 5+ hours of pinochle hell ... yeah, I'm gonna need that vodka.

In the evening we're going to Star Trek: Into Darkness because it's at the second-run theater (and that's the closest second-run theater to us). We didn't catch it in May, so pretty please no spoilers? We were good and avoided the internet ...

Sunday is up for grabs yet. Preseason football will probably win out, though. More knitting.
  • @KeptInStitches - What happened between you and your brother's GF? I vote yes to the vodka. Is pinochle hard to learn? I remember my parents would play that game for hours on end.

DD stuff about the conflict. Sorry guys, it exploded out of me in very bad ways that weren't coherent and didn't really even get to the heart of what is actually wrong. That's what happens when you squash down anger for a long time and have no good way to vent it.

Pinochle isn't too hard to learn, it's getting the house rules of your group down. It's a lot like whist if you've ever played that, and not too far off from euchre. The real challenge is the strategy of passing, which most of us kids still don't have down yet. BF and I passed pinochle (queen of spades, jack of diamonds) to each other at Christmas, which my family refers to as "playing like sausages."
  • @Swazzle- I'm trying to get into TH but it's different w/o everyone here. I miss the activity on this board. I love those boots! I can't wait till Fall to start wearing mine.

Tonight is one of my BM's birthdays and she is having a crawfish broil...omg I'm going to nom on those and also she said she reserved some box wine for just her and I soo I'm pretty excited.

Tomorrow @lmhollister and I are having a spa day and getting facials. I'm in need of a good facial and I plan on getting my eyebrows waxed while I'm there. Afterwards, FI and I desperately need to drop some things off at Goodwill, our pile as grown immensely since I've moved my stuff over there so we need to do that. I also plan on getting hopefully half of my invites addressed this weekend.

Sunday we have church and after that FI's mom is going to the Farmer's market and she said she would pick up some things for us so we will go to her house for a bit. Besides that Sunday will probably just be finishing unpacking and organizing FI's apartment.
  • I'm bouncing back and forth between TH and here I guess. Things were really dead here earlier this week...

Tonight I'm going to my parent's to play Game of Things with them and our distant cousins who are visiting us from Germany.

Tomorrow is spa day with @southernpeach89 . I also need to take puppy-dog to the vet for her 3rd round of shots and take care of the 'rents dogs cause they will be out of town for the day.

Sunday, BF and I, 'rents, and German cousins are all going to Helen, GA. It's basically a replica of a Bavarian town in the Appalachian foothills. We figure out German cousins will get a good laugh out of it. We'll do some shopping up there and go tubing on the Chattahoochee.

My big news this week is BF got a promotion at work! This means he's going to be on day shift with me! We've been dating since April of 2011 and we've never spent more than  week straight together. Basically we get to spend time together on the weekends and sleep together for a couple of hours before I get up and go to work. This is such a huge deal for us...I have no idea what sort of changes are coming to our relationship but I know we'll probably have to make some adjustments. I'm also super excited for him because his new boss is amazing and he'll get to finally do some new, higher-level stuff. He's really burnt out on his current job because his manager has basically checked out of being a manager or even being involved in the office and he's sick of the BS he puts up with every day. The position he's in is really not meant to be a long term thing...3 years is the usual time period people stay in it and he's been doing it for four years now. This promotion is seriously a long long long time coming!

@Swazzle Yay for new shoes! I still need to spend my $50 DSW giftcard from my birthday.

  • Well I sure have missed a lot!  It's been really crazy for me at work so I really haven't had much time to stop in.  What little time I do have has gone into obsessively planning my wedding.  Somehow I still have so little done.  Hmm...

Anyway, I don't really have plans for this weekend.  BF will be at a concert tonight so my plan is to give the apartment a thorough cleaning and get some extra work done, but it's pretty safe to say I'll end up laying on the couch drinking wine and eating junk.  Saturday I have to go see a florist about some centerpieces for a work event, which I guess could be sort of fun.  Otherwise, I plan to just relax!

  • Ugh, this has been A WEEK for me.

Last Friday, I submitted my first draft of my proposal, and my boss was really not happy with it (kudos to him for being really nice about it, though). He had extensive edits for me to make, which I did over the weekend. Then, more edits were necessary. Then more. I really wanted it done by today, and he was 90% sure it wouldn't be. Last night, I did some major rewriting and reorganization ... and he's REALLY happy with it. After a few more tweaks and some heavy duty spellchecking, I get to submit it! It'll be done and submitted either this afternoon or tomorrow. Thank goodness!

My partner and I are going to Nova Scotia for the week next week with his family. I've been very anxious about it, mostly because I know that whatever clothing I'll pack, I'll end up wishing I brought something else to wear instead. I get better at packing every time I go on a trip, but it's inevitable that I'll still make mistakes.

The upsetting thing this week, besides losing sleep to finish my proposal, was that we clipped my bird's wings in preparation for the trip. My birdo is staying with my mom, but she's not used to flighted birds, so we have to clip him when he stays with her. He struggled SO MUCH that I did a terrible job and clipped him too much, so he's been falling SPLAT to the floor when he tries to fly.

And of course, Wednesday night, he falls SPLAT to the floor and cracked the tip of his beak!!

Thank goodness my best friend is a veterinarian, and was still awake when I called. My poor little baby is totally fine, although we have to be very careful to keep him from falling anymore until his flight feathers come back in. I feel like the worst bird mommy in the world, though; if I hadn't done such a bad job clipping him, he'd be totally fine and there wouldn't be anything to worry about.

So ... I am definitely looking forward to getting up to Nova Scotia and not worrying about anything for a week!

  • @keptinstitches - How are you in the right there? Like you said, you don't own the craft, so you should definitely let that one go. Also, if she took it up just to be friends with you, and not because she's passionate about it, the chances of her selling much is pretty slim. She'll probably get bored with it and move on.

Also, I think pinochle is very hard to learn. Between learning how much each meld option is, learning to bid, the strategy of leading, etc. My husband refuses to learn but luckily I started playing when I was 11.

This afternoon my sister, BIL, niece and nephew arrive. Tomorrow morning we drive up to RI for a weeks vacation. I cannot wait to lay on the beach, get some sun, drink a frosty beverage, and play with my niece and nephew.
  • @amlrunner, I appreciate it and I know I should let it go, but there is a lot of other crap between the two of us that I didn't outline here. I know you can only judge based on what I post, but seriously, this chick is so far superior to me in everyone else's view that it's like she's moving in on the only thing I had left over her. I know life isn't a competition and all that jazz, but ... it's one thing way too many.
  • @phira - I'm sorry to hear about your bird.  Don't beat yourself up, I'm sure he will be fine but I know how much it sucks to feel like you hurt your fur (or feather) baby.  I pulled on my dog a little too hard once (he's leash aggressive, unfortunately, but a doll off-leash) and a dog caught us by surprise running around the corner straight for us.  I grabbed my dog hard to get out of the way before he went nuts on the other dog and he "yelped"...he's a stoic 120lb dog and I never heard that sound before and never want to hear it again.  Felt bad for a good month.

    @swazzle - I adore those boots.

@lmhollister - Major congrats on the promotion!

I'm hoping H and I can relax this weekend....we've both been sick this week and work has been a little hard on both of us too.  Tonight we will just chill out.  Tomorrow more of the same I hope.  On Sunday I'm trying to convince H to go to the Renaissance Festival with me.  Its cheesy but fun...I have a feeling he won't like it but am hoping I am proved wrong.

  • Hey guys!

I'm bored as well because, apparently that's what unemployment does to me. On the bright side, I had an interview on Wednesday for a pretty cool job at a company that I've wanted to work for for a while, and their office was hands-down the COOLEST office I've ever seen. There was even a puppy running around! I'm supposed to find out today whether or not they want to see me next week for a round-two interview. Also, my request for unemployment benefits hasn't been denied YET. I know if I get denied it might not happen for another couple of weeks, but every day that goes by that I don't get that letter is a good one in my book.

Right now I'm baking some cheesy bread sticks to have for lunch, then BF and I will probably go play tennis a little later. Tomorrow I'm babysitting for my friend's 1-year-old son for a few hours, and then going out to a BYOB Japanese place for some sushi. Other that that, not much planned for this weekend!

  • Good luck with your interview, hummingbird!
  • Thanks! Trying not to be too focused on it because they are interviewing a lot of other applicants, and I need to keep applying to other jobs anyway.

Just read this thread. I SERIOUSLY do not understand how women stay with men like this for so long.

  • I just saw this thread  - I have nothing to contribute at the moment (I've been insanely busy) but I just want to say I'm glad people are still around. Especially you, @swazzle <3
