Morning!

How was the weekend?  I saw a few pictures of fun, but would like to hear more.  (Nola needs her own post)

Nothing much here.  Saturday was nothing special- water balloon fight, play, a terrible trip to Walmart.

Sunday was my family reunion.  It was a good time, but there was one interesting conversation.  My 72 yo aunt put her husband  in a convalescent home this year due to his Alzheimer's.  She's been in a support group and was hanging out with some other spouses in the same boat.  One of the guys asked if he could call her.  It was funny to watch my 67 yo mom and aunt talking about boys like they were in hs.  At the same time it was sad that my aunt is navigating a dating game after being with her husband since she was 15 (married at 18).

Oh and I got an email this morning that 6let starts soccer practice Wednesday.  Nice notice.  No mention of what equipment they need.
  • My weekend was nice.

Friday was DD1's birthday.  We had lunch at CEC and then went on a Target run later that afternoon.

Saturday we mostly just got ready for the birthday party.  I went through Son's clothes and there was still stuff in there from when he was in 3rd or 4th grade.  I guess I need to go through the closet more often than every 4 years.

Yesterday was the birthday party.  Everything went well.  I love having parties and getting everyone together.

Today is the first day of school.  DD1 is beyond excited.  There is a mandatory parent meeting this morning for the first 15-20 minutes of class.  The note said if a parent can't make it, a home visit is necessary.  Yeesh.

  • @6fsn - when Son played soccer, all he needed was shin guards.  And shin guards for a 4yo are a.dor.a.ble.

    Weekend was kind of meh.

Friday, I went into the office for the day for training.  I felt crappy so I just didn't want to be there.  I did see a lot of people I have not seen in awhile, so that was really nice.  DH was supposed to be off in time for us to go to dinner together with his family for his uncle's bday.  He ended up getting off super late, but not calling me until the last second.  So the kids and I were late to dinner.   It was a clusterfuck because the pizza place was ran by a bunch of moron teenagers.  And to top it off, MIL was kind of snarky to me and it made me mad...mostly because I was PMSing. I usually let her BS roll off my back because it's just how she is.

Saturday, poor DefConn is still struggling with being super congested.  I have a call in to the Dr to see what we're supposed to do because he's miserable and not sleeping well.  I've been up every night for almost a week in the middle of the night because he's coughing so bad and I have to reposition him.  And I had a swollen/infected salivary glad that was bothering me since late Thursday and by Saturday morning, the pain was almost intolerable.  I ended up going to medcheck.

The kiddo had spent the night at at the IL's with SIL and my nieces.  SIL called Saturday afternoon to let us know the kiddo was sick.  We hurried up and went over to the IL's so DH could take the kiddo to the Minute Clinic.

DefConn had fun 'swimming' in the kiddie pool at my IL's, naked (of course).  Dinner was OK.  If the kiddo hadn't been sick, I probably would have stayed home.

Yesterday, it was super lazy morning/afternoon.  Finally around 2pm we got up and ready to go to my parent's house for dinner.  My mom took the kiddo shopping where she works for new school clothes. I went with them.  We had dinner with my parents, came home and vegged out for the rest of the night.

I did finish the first season of "The Newsroom" this weekend.  I'm feeling better.  The kiddo's improving.  I just hope that the Dr. has some solutions for DefConn because he's a sad panda and I'm tired from waking up because he's coughing so much.

A home visit?  Because people don't have lives and emergencies?

I thought I read somewhere they need a ball too.  We have several, but I'm not sure if they are the right size.

  • WTF @ a 'home visit'.  It's preschool, right?  That's a little intrusive, IMO.
  • I have no idea why a home visit would be needed.  I guess I'll find out in a little while.

DH also made Son start wearing a cup.  The year he turned 4 he played soccer, baseball and flag football.  DH told him he should get used to wearing it because he'd have to wear one for the rest of his athletic life.

Personally I thought it was a little early but I don't have a penis, so DH got that one.

  • I don't think we bought the kiddo a cup until he started playing tackle football.  He played soccer and flag football w/o one.
  • Nothing much.  Saturday was a lazy day.  Yesterday was stuff for work week and getting DH ready to go to his training OOT.  I'm looking forward to time w/o him.

I also confirmed my next two speakers and I'm super excited about them.  They're both doctorates from my old alma mater; one is an old favorite professor, the other is who took over for my mentor when she passed.  I've heard good things about him, so I'm eager to meet him.  This means I have the rest of the year of our monthly business meetings now planned.  I just have a few more things to put into place for the end of the year and then design my October presentation and I'm finished.

I had a rather awesome weekend.

Friday, I met w/ the ins. agent and went over some stuff and signed things so he can get me a quote--that will answer whether or not this is happening.
THEN the newly-formed non-hoovery playgroup met--I hadn't made bubble sln but I did bring moon sand and tanagram blocks, which were popular--and after 15 minutes of being shy, my child DID play w/ other kids (It just takes me giving her 2 options--she can either sit with me while I talk to grownups OR she can go play w/ other kids--but I'm not going to go play w/ toys with her.  Apparently other kisd are less scary than grownups are boring :-P)

Saturday, I had my parents meet us at 'touch-a-truck'--Buffy thought it was pretty awesome (although she got freaked out a bit by the noise level)--I left the kiddo w/ them and went for a heavenly massage (mother's day GC I'm FINALLY using),  After which I bought starbucks and sat in my car and read for 1/2 an hour because I needed that.
Swung by Meijer on the way to my parents, because shopping kid-less is a good thing in my book--bought clearance shrubbery and craft stuff and a few science-y supplies.

Sunday, Buffy and I went to church, hit Meijer for "real" shopping (grocery), and then took a long long nap.  After which we planted above mentioned shrubberies.
  • Weekend itself was good. This morning blew donkeys.

    1) I realized while in the shower that I needed to be on a 7:06 train. It was 6:53. I didn't make that train.

    2) while getting coffee together I dropped yesterday's coffee grinds all over me.

    3) I got DD up, set up her feeding pump and started her morning 8oz feed. When the pump finished and I went to unhook her I found that the COUCH had been fed, not my kid. The tube cap where the pump tubing attaches and the main tube into DD had come apart. It was 7:20 and I had to leave.

Luckily, H was able to do a feed through a syringe, medicated her, dressed her and got her on the bus. I will deal with the vanilla pediasure scented couch when I get home today.

At least I leave work at noon today. I'll be home by 1.
  • Ugh Dixie, that sucks. Friday was cook dinner and do nothing. The house was clean which was magical. Saturday morning I got up and did the hospital tour. It was a cluster fuck. Came home, had lunch, put DS down for a nap then went grocery shopping. Came home to find a naked toddler and DH taking a nap. We saw Planes with my parents which DS loved. Got home late and went to bed. Sunday was a lazy day. We were supposed to do brunch at older SIL's house but neither of us wanted to go so we didn't.
  • @Pmeg819 - was the naked toddler and DH napping together? Because that's the best image ever!
  • Yes. They were going to fall asleep and nap. DH fell asleep but DS didn't. And in the process he stripped himself naked and wandered the house.

    hehe @pmeg819.

6let is dying to see Planes.

  • It was okay- it's definitely a kid's movie. DS loves airplanes so he was totally enthralled- like could not sit in the seat, had to stand mouth agape the entire time.

My FIL and sMIL have taken 6let and M2 to two different movies and had a ball.  I'm scared to take all of them so I'm leaving it as a fun grandparent thing.  He saw a Planes book and said he'd be happy to read about it.
  • Yeah, this was a grandparents treat. DH and I tagged along because we've heard so much about this movie from DS and he talks constantly about airplanes (daycare says at least once a day he has to mention jets/flying/being a pilot) so we wanted to see his reaction.
