Wedding Dress

Hi everyone!  I just recently moved here from Florida and planning a wedding in Michigan. Any recommendations on where to purchase a wedding dress?  I'm looking to stay around $2500.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Re: Wedding Dress

  • Are you looking for city or suburban shops?
  • I'm open to either city or suburbs. Thanks!!
  • Wedding Belles in Barrington.

  • My daughter found her dress at Kathryn's in McHenry.  Her price point was $1000 and she had a large selection from which to choose.  Volle's in Lake Zurich is very popular.  L'Amour in Barrington is also popular, but they tend to start at a higher price point than many shops.  My daughter did not care for the attitude at that shop.
  • I highly recommend Jasmine in Lombard or Weddings 826 in Lincoln Park.

I recommend A L'Amour or Vwidon (I got my dress at Vwidon and loved, loved, loved it).  At Vwidon the actual designer makes your dress and does all alterations, so they're they are precise.  You can make any custom changes to any of the dresses as well (I think I made 5, including the neckline, the back, the fabric, the color, etc.)
  • I got mine at Crystal Bride in Geneva as did my cousin. We both had great experiences and they have a LOT of dresses that'd be at or even under your price range.

  • I got mine at Brides by Demetrios in the Streets of Woodfield and they were amazing!!

  • Is there any hope in finding a shop with dresses for like $500 and below besides David's Bridal? My friend and I are both getting married next year and have small budgets.

When my daughter first went dress shopping, we emailed several shops.  We gave them our price point and asked whether we would find much in that price range.  Shops were surprisingly honest.  A few mentioned their sales/off season racks, and said some of those price points were under $500.  There are also a few websites that sell previously worn/recycled dresses.  Some of the larger department and women's stores, such as J. Crew, Ann Taylor, Macy's, etc., also have wedding lines.  I have seen sales that offer 40% off their entire website, and many make a point of saying, "includes bridal line".
  • I suggest being honest about your budget with them.  I had a 1500 budget, unfortunately i found my dream dress for 1650. When the shop owner learned that it was over my stated budget she sold it to me for 1500.  Just be up front about it. they should be able to work with you...everyone has a budget :)

I mentioned Wedding Belles in my previous post. I got my dress there for $400 dollars. Depending on their stock, which has a fast turnover, and whether it's in your size, since everything is off the rack and what they have is what you can chose from, you have a chance to find something for under $500. It's really hit or miss, but I know 5 people, including myself, who have found dresses there for great prices. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice. We're going to House of Brides on Wednesday to try on dresses. I'm pretty sure I know what dress I will be buying myself. But I know my friend has not even really picked a style yet and she's been to 4 shops I think. I'll have to point her to some of the suggestions on here.

Mine came from Eva's bridal and fashions. It's at 3339 N Harlem in Chicago. My consultant was Gina and she was fantastic. She really listened to my ideas but wasn't afraid to make suggestions and she kept us under our $2500 budget!
