School!!!

School starts on Wednesday for me so lets learn something about us (I fully intend for this post to still be alive tomorrow when you're all at work)

1. How many years of school have you completed?
2. What is your favorite school subject?
3. What is your favorite recess game?
4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?
5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?
6. Tell me your funniest school story.

My answers:
1. 20.5 years. Crazy. I'm going back for 1 more next summer.
2. Math. Hands down.
3. Kickball. Or heads up seven up if its inside.
4. Few close friends (but they're amazing!)
5. Online unless its a class I love like math or psychology
6. My 4th grade gym teacher once told me to go wander the halls for a bit cause he thought I would pass out during the lesson on tourniquets. I likely would have. The only class I ever got in trouble for talking was senior year calculus. I was busy flirting with a guy I wasn't dating. Who tries to pick up guys in calculus?!
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

Re: School!!!

  • 1. How many years of school have you completed? 21
    2. What is your favorite school subject? Chemistry.
    3. What is your favorite recess game? Freeze tag.
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances? Kind of both? I consider myself to have just a few close friends, but a lot more people consider me a friend than I consider a friend, if that makes sense.
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class? In person class.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story. I was on the math competition team my senior year of high school. I got a sky-high score on my SAT mathematics portion, and the teachers figured they had this year in the bag because several of my classmates had also done well. Joke was on them when we got beaten by the sophomores.
  • 1. How many years of school have you completed? I've completed 16 years of school, I'm starting year 17 next Monday!

    2. What is your favorite school subject?
Hmm...it's a tie between History and English. I really miss taking history and English lessons.

    3. What is your favorite recess game? Umm...I was the kid who liked to read during recess...

    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?
A little of both. I'm in the same boat as @KeptInStitches were there are quite a few people who consider me a friend whereas I think of them as an acquaintances. There are a few people I do consider good friends though.

    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class? It depends. I took a lot of my general credits online and I really enjoyed having that option. It gave me more time to focus on the classes that are important to me but I still felt like I learned. I don't like taking classes for my major online though.

    6. Tell me your funniest school story.
My junior year there was a boy who used to serenade me during my physics class. And one day he announced to the entire class that we were getting married. It doesn't really sound all that funny written down I suppose but it was at the time.

  • @bethsmiles haha I was the kid that hung out with my band teachers for lunch. Sooo reading isn't bad. Plus I'm currently sulking cause my nook is malfunctioning. I'm a book nerd too :)

  • 1. How many years of school have you completed? If you count the 2 years I was in pre-school, 25 years. F.M.L. I'm starting 23rd grade this fall.
    2. What is your favorite school subject? Biology . . . damn it.
    3. What is your favorite recess game? I never liked recess.
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances? I have a few close friend and I also have many acquaintances.
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class? In person. I need the motivation and accountability of face to face contact.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story. I will get back to you tomorrow :)
  • @bethsmiles haha I was the kid that hung out with my band teachers for lunch. Sooo reading isn't bad. Plus I'm currently sulking cause my nook is malfunctioning. I'm a book nerd too :)
Haha...I did hang out in the band room during lunch sometimes but it was good times!

That sucks that you're nook isn't working! I would die without my Kindle! I just bought like 5 new books.

  • I spent a lot of time in the band room. I switched instruments from the flute to the tuba my sophomore year of high school, and my senior year I spent all my free periods in the band room working with the instructor (his primary instrument was tuba). My technique and tone grew by leaps and bounds that year.
  • 1. How many years of school have you completed?
18 years I guess which includes Kindergarten and Pre-school.
    2. What is your favorite school subject?
I loved Science! Biology was my favorite class by far (hence why I majored in it!)
    3. What is your favorite recess game?
Haha, gosh I loved playing Tag and kickball...I was such a little tomboy in Elementary school, all I wanted to do was be the fastest runner in the school yet after school I would put on my Leo and go to gymnastics lol.
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?
Well after being in a sorority in college, I have a lot of close friends but I really only keep in close touch with a hand full of those. I keep in touch with most of my friends from high school since we all live so close together though.
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?
In person, I focus so much more when I'm sitting in front of a teacher taking notes rather than listening to a power point or lecture online.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story.
I have a bunch but one I will never forget was when I was in middle school, I was going to the restroom and the water fountain had leaked all over the floor. Well, there was this boy who lived in my neighborhood that made fun of me relentlessly who was in the hall at the same time. Well...as you would suspect, I slipped on the puddle of water in front of him, and he wouldn't let me live that down until we graduated from high school.

    1. How many years of school have you completed? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    1 year of kindergarten + 12 years of primary + 4 years college = 17.

    2. What is your favorite school subject?

I always really liked science classes.

    3. What is your favorite recess game?

I didn't really play a lot of typical recess games. I was more the imaginary game type of kid. We'd pretend we were pirates or princesses or whatever.

    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?

A few close friends. My circle is growing though! It felt like it was hard to meet people post college, but now that it's been a few years I finally feel like I have a pretty awesome group!

    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?

In person. I really like debates and discussions. I also like getting to know my professors in person. I am considering some programs with a majority of online classes for graduate school though, because I think it will better serve my work schedule.

    6. Tell me your funniest school story.

I was in an after school dress rehearsal for a musical I was performing in. They didn't have my costume ready, so I went out in just the crinoline skirt. I completed my song and then turned around to exit the stage. The entire cast started laughing hysterically from the audience seats. Turns out there was a big gap in the back of the crinoline and everyone got a great view of my undies. Real cute!

  • @allusive007 oh gosh! I would be mortified :)

We have a lot of science nerds in our midst. Crazy :)

    1. How many years of school have you completed?

Pre-K, Kindergarten, 12 years primary, 3 years college and 3 years law school so 20 years.  Gah!

    2. What is your favorite school subject?

I loved Sociology in college (it was one of my majors)

    3. What is your favorite recess game?

    Kickball...I've got very strong legs.

    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?

Both....thankfully I never had a hard time fitting in (I was never the most popular person nor the person that got picked on...I just hung out in the middle of the pack).

    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?

In person.  Online is too distracting.

    6. Tell me your funniest school story.

I think they modeled the show Glee after my high school choir experience...seriously, its freaky.

Edited because even after all that school, I can't add. :p

  • 1. How many years of school have you completed?

1 year kindergarten + 12 years regular school + 4 years college + 2 years of pre-reqs (part-time) + the year I just started of nursing school = going on 20 years. Ugh.

    2. What is your favorite school subject?

I have always loved English, Psych, and History.

    3. What is your favorite recess game?

I liked the pretend games we used to play, like Allusive mentioned. Or Capture the Flag or Dodgeball.

    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?

I was always the type to have a few close friends. It actually surprised me at high school/college graduations how many people I was excited to see and clap for because it seemed like so many.

    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?

In person. I get crazy off-task when classes are online.

    6. Tell me your funniest school story.

Can't say as I have many good ones. Maybe the time I was in the lunchroom in 9th grade and a friend knocked over my water bottle, prompting me to state very loudly, "My water broke!" Otherwise, school was kind of eh for me.
  • 1. How many years of school have you completed?
I have completed 19 years of schooling....but a lot more years of actually being in a school since I am a teacher.
    2. What is your favorite school subject?
I could lie and say math and science (I teach/support those subjects), but I love social studies!
    3. What is your favorite recess game?
My favorite recess game was always four square. Me and my clique would dominate the four square area and the other kids would circle around waiting for a turn!
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?
Both, 3-4 best friends and then my social circle.
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?
I would rather take an in person class, it helps to keep order and accountability in my life.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story.
I went on a class trip to Toronto my freshmen year of high school. The hotel we stayed in was a huge tower, directly facing another hotel tower. One night my friends and I noticed that there were a group of college guys waving at us from the other tower. I decided to put on my bikini (who brings a bikini to Toronto?) and jump on the bed waving to the guys. At that exact moment, our assistant principal peeked his head into the room and saw everything. He lost it! He ran over to the window, pulled down the curtain and reamed us out. My friends still bring it up more than 10 years later.

    1. How many years of school have you completed? Pre-K, Kindergarten-1st Grade, 2-5th Grade, 6-8th Grade, 9-12 grade, 3 years of college completed...17 years... still not done :-P, next Monday is the start of my 18th year of college and then I am still planning to do an accelerated program to get my teaching license. That is 3 years of class squeezed into 1 1/2 years...

    2. What is your favorite school subject? Psychology and Literature or any English Class

    3. What is your favorite recess game? The Monkey Bars were always my favorite, or in Kindergarten we would play 101 Dalmatians (basically tag with a "dog cage")

    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances? Several close friends and then several social circles

    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class? Depends on the class. But never together. I did that once, and it drove me up a wall. In class discussion, plus online discussion requirements/homework/essays/etc. Two teachers, one for in class and one for online... ick!

    6. Tell me your funniest school story. When I was in 7th grade, my best friends grabbed me on the way to lunch and shoved me into the girls bathroom. They had cupcakes waiting for me with a candle in one. They proceeded to sing happy birthday to me (in the girls bathroom) and lit the candle. Then a teacher walked in and we threw it into the toilet and awkwardly stared at our biology teacher. She asked us what was going on and my friend of course had an answer "It seems as if my body is no longer properly breaking down food. I had that cupcake for breakfast. I should probably go talk to a doctor about that" We grabbed the cupcakes and walked out.

I had weird friends :-) I loved them to death! I really should talk to them more often... *sigh* it really makes me miss them :-(

    1. How many years of school have you completed? 19 years! (BA in Communication and English and including 2 years of preschool plus kindergarten)
    2. What is your favorite school subject? English
    3. What is your favorite recess game? My best friend and I used to claim we were horses and racing and jump over all the cracks in the pavement back in elementary school.
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances? A few close friends and a fraternity (very different dynamics)
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class? In person. I tried 3 online courses and although they were easy, it felt too easy. I enjoy interacting with my professors.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story. After a service event with my fraternity in which we worked with a horse rescue, we stumbled into a pizzeria with like 10 of us with dirty jeans and all of us needing to go the bathroom! They totally didn't know what to do with us.

  • 1. How many years of school have you completed?
21 years (I'm about to start my third year of graduate school)
    2. What is your favorite school subject?
Sex and gender studies, which was one of my college majors.
    3. What is your favorite recess game?
    Freeze tag.
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?
    Both.
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?
Definitely in person. Even when I'm sitting in class, I tend to stop paying attention. If you let me take an online class, you can bet I will be paying zero attention and I will be wasting my money. I'm the kind of person who has to black out websites to get work done.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story.
My 25th birthday was at the beginning of my first year of graduate school, and one of my new classmates used to be a bartender. During a 10 minute break in our schedule, right before our final course of the day (a super boring class with over 100 students, almost entirely undergrads), we mixed drinks and did shots in our office.

We sat waaaay in the back of the lecture hall to decrease our chances of getting caught being drunk in class. Because we were so far back, it was hard to read the blackboard. Our professor had previously told us that if we couldn't read the board, we should ask him to write bigger, but he also was ALWAYS writing on the board, so he didn't see one of my friends raise and wave her hand to try to get his attention. She finally just interrupted the lecture, loudly asking, "Can you write bigger, please?" We had to try very hard not to laugh.

Later on, our professor was drawing on the board and his drawings looked very similar to penises. Knowing that my sober self would think that my drunk self was just messing around drawing penises in her knots, I wrote, "NOT A PENIS" each time I had to copy down a penis-looking diagram. Spectacular.

  • 1. How many years of school have you completed?
18 years, just two more to go (hopefully)!
    2. What is your favorite school subject?
Umm... Elementary school: English & Math, High school: Law, Undergrad: Ethics
    3. What is your favorite recess game?
Like some PPs it was all imagination stuff. By grade 8, I spent recess with my friend discussing our future careers... we weren't normal. :)
    4. Do you have a few close friends or many acquaintances?
Few close friends and then many acquaintances I think. I'm the type of person who thinks 100 "friends" on Facebook is too many!
    5. Would you rather take an online class or in person class?
In person. I feel like you learn so much more that way, and there's more class interaction.
    6. Tell me your funniest school story.
Not sure how funny it is, but it's what comes to mind: My school had this strange tradition called "Hug Ball Day". Each person was given a ball made of tiny strings of yarn hung on a longer string like a necklace. So you hug somebody, and you give each other a piece of yarn to tie to your necklace. I'm not a touchy person, so I loathed that this ball of yarn gave people an excuse to hug me. I had told one of my classmates how much I hated Hug Ball Day, since he seemed anti-Hug Ball as well. Later that day, I was hanging out in the school library with my friends and suddenly he comes up behind me and hugs me. Apparently I was shocked because I screamed... in the middle of the library. :p I felt bad for him, because I just thought I get irked he was hugging me, not scream.
