Loft area ideas/guest perspective.

My rental comes with a loft area that is above the main room. However, it isn't fully open. It just has windows that overlook it, but the windows could be covered. I'm debating if I should just have tables and chairs up there and have it open so anyone can go up there if they want to get away from the party for a bit, but I feel like people wouldn't actually use it. My other idea is to put some games up there, with a sign at the bottom of the stairs letting people know that it's an (unsupervised) kid's room. All the kids that are coming are my cousins who are 8-14, so they are old enough to play alone. I wouldn't go out of my way to make a kid's room, but figured I could do it because we have the room. I thought about making it into an awesome "photo booth" area with a different backdrop on each wall, and a bunch of different props, but that would involve hiring someone to take the photos, and I feel like it wouldn't be as cool as I am imagining. Any other ideas? As a guest, what would you most enjoy seeing?

  • Well, it wouldn't be a guest's choice, but I'd consider a getaway spot for the bridal party.  I'd have a bunch of "emergency items," kind of a more substantial version of a bathroom basket with tylenol, tums, thread/needle, tampons, tissues etc.  I'd also ask the catering folks to bring some of the simpler appetizer-type foods up there.  Both sides of the bridal party as well as you and your new husband could use it to just have a quiet moment in a long day

I would suggest just not using the area.

I'm assuming the stairs are in visible place, so it won't really be polite to have it as a private "bridal party only" section like pp mentioned. I also wouldn't encourage an unsupervised kids' area. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!

I agree with not having it as a private "getaway" area for the couple or wedding party, but I don't see why kids who are old enough and trustworthy enough couldn't use it.  Perhaps have someone up there who can supervise?
