Post-Wedding Party Attire

Hi there,

I recently got married in the UK and my husband and I will be visiting home for the first time since our wedding. Only my immediate family attended our wedding, so my father wants to throw us a post wedding party so that my family from Toronto and New York can meet my husband (only one of my cousins had met him previously) and give us congratulations.

I was just wondering what I should wear. I don't want to look 'bridal', but I would like to wear white or something light because my family will want to have photos with us.

It could either be a dinner out or a barbeque in my parents backyard. What do you think would be appropriate? I'm open to anything, but learning towards a boho maxi dress or something vintage-y.

I'm also at a loss where to find this kind of dress. Shops don't really sell white non-wedding dresses.

See if you can find a bridesmaid's dress that you like - a lot of them come in white or paler colors. Otherwise I agree, it may be hard to find something white that isn't a bridal gown.

A quick Google search of "white dress" pulled up lots of results. There are white skater dresses from ASOS, maxi dresses from Target, and short lacy dresses from NY&Co. You have plenty of options! (I'd purchase ASAP - since summer is just about over, lots of white things will go out of stock soon.)

I'm always a fan of Modcloth. I, personally, think you should steer clear of white, but that's just my preference. (To be fair, I roll my eyes when brides wear white to showers/rehearsals... like they need to wear white so people know they are the bride.) I think champagne would look fabulous on you.

I second ASOS and Modcloth; they have a great selection of dresses. Joe Fresh also has a bunch of cute summery dresses in solids, prints, and white.

I was a bit wary of wearing white because I already wore white on my wedding day (alliteration, much?), but I think it would be fine if my dress wasn't very bridal looking? Either way, champagne sounds beautiful, and I think I'd have more options if I went with a maxi dress in that colour!
