Invites...again

Since we are losing the deposit from the caterer, I've been trying to cut a few dollars in other places. So, the first thing I went to were our invites. I'm thinking about doing panel pockets instead of pocketfolds, and I want to cut an enclosure. So far I have a RSVP, and info card with our website on it, the reception card, and an accommodations card.

Obviously I need the RSVP and the reception card. What can I get rid of?

We're just putting our website on the reception card by saying something like "Reception to follow at this place, this address. For maps, things to do in the area, and more please visit our wedidng website at..."

I don't know if you're doing actual RSVP cards that people mail back in but we're just having guests RSVP by phone or email so we're saving on postage there. Also, we're not doing inner envelopes either.

Ditto mook on no inner envelopes.  I'd cut the accomodations card and put that information on the website.  So you'd just need the invite/rsvp/reception/website card.

If you make your RSVP a postcard, you dont need an rsvp envelope and the postage is cheaper than a letter.  You could also do online, but older guests get confused by that (and I would personally hate people calling in RSVPs)

Hmm...these are good ideas I should steal them!

I did an RSVP postcard -- it was less expensive and everything worked out just fine (nothing lost or stuck between sales papers!).  Also, we had no inner envelope.

If/when you cut an accomodations card, I would recommend reinforcing with your out-of-town guests to visit the site for hotel information.  I think very few people actually looked at our site and they missed out on saving some money with my blocked rooms.

Another way we saved:  We purchased the invitation, RSVP and Reception card design digital files from Etsy, printed them through a friend of DH (hobbyist photographer who belonged to a member-only printing site) and bought envelopes at envelopemall.com.  I think we spent around $245 before postage, but it could have been less than that.

We are putting our directions and hotel info all on one..  And we are not doing an inner envelope either. Just a waste of paper and another thing people will just throw away. We are just making our invitations as simple as possible, we figured there is no use spending a ton of money on them when they will just end up in the trash!

I LOVE the idea of doing a postcard for the RSVP! Such a good idea I have to pitch it to my FI.

Panther- Sorry to hear you lost the deposit.

Thanks for the ideas girls! I was considering skipping the inner envelope. Any ideas on how to let our guests know that they are welcome to bring a guest? We have budgeted for +1s for just about everyone, including singles.

On the outer envelope:  Mr. and Mrs. James Smith and Guest OR Mr. James Smith and Guest.

We only did plus one's for single friends.
